Longer…

Well, they’re very long – those Australian ones, definitely longer than our Malaysian ones…and if you are wondering what this preoccupation with length is all about, I’m actually referring to the Aussie beef sausages that Santastella gave me when I was in Kuching. Now, now…what on earth was running through your minds? Muahahahaha!!!!

Aussie beef sausages
*recycled pic

Well, many of you were absolutely aghast when you saw the above photograph in the post concerned as it was already past the expiry date and what was worse, I mentioned that I had not eaten them yet and was thinking of keeping them for my daughter when she comes home for the holidays in November.

Indeed, the sausages had flown all the way from Melbourne via KLIA to Kuching and finally, to Sibu…and being freshly-made uncooked sausages, putting them back into the freezer to keep for so long would not be such a good idea. So what I did was I fried/grilled all of them at one go; I reckon that once they are already cooked, it wouldn’t be so bad to put them back in the freezer and take them out to eat as and when needed.

I gave my missus one plus a fried egg, sunny side up, for breakfast…and for myself, I also had some Indomie instant mee goreng (fried noodles) at the same time. I did not cook any of the noodles for my missus as she always said that she would not have the appetite to eat very much so early in the morning.

I tried the sausage and thought that it was somewhat bland but was kind of perplexed when my missus ate hers and said it was very salty. I thought perhaps, the strong flavour of the noodles had neutralised or drowned out the saltiness and that was why I thought it did not taste really great.

But a few mornings later, I heated up two more and had them with scrambled eggs and toast…

…and I found that they were really very nice!

You can actually taste the minced meat inside – quite unlike the rubbery texture of those sausages available in our local supermarkets…and it had that very nice special taste and fragrance that German sausages have. They did not taste salty…

…as I had them together with the egg wrapped in toast.

All in all, I certainly enjoyed eating them for breakfast and rest assured that all will be gone in no time at all… LOL!!!

How come I’m not surprised? Hehehehehehe!!!! Yup, they’re good… Two more left – I think I’ll have them for breakfast this morning…

    1. *pengsan* Expired liao, still not yet finish kah??? Ish… dun keep too long… salmonella later…

Finished already… By now, already turned into something else – more or less same shape, maybe of a darker shade! Muahahahahaha!!!! 😀

  2. Good to know u enjoying the sausages. Will bear in mind u also like the smoked ones too. I hve to buy few days ahead hence by the time I flew back Msia being fresh sausages, the life-span is shorter, it probably expired but I did freeze it up so shld be ok. The pork n lamb ones are nice too,so maybe next time…..

Ya, they’re still o.k. Will definitely last longer than the stated date if frozen in the freezer…and since I’ve grilled them already, they should last longer. Anyway, only two left…and in a bit, they’ll be all gone. Hehehehehe!!!

    1. Stella… I think Cikgu will like anything you give him. LOL… I was really surprised when i first see Cikgu’s entry… I never knew you could bring back such stuff… Msian custom nv give you prob?

Here, not as strict as in Oz or NZ… Live plants, animals etc…not allowed, have to be quarantined first. Meat, no problem – last time, ever since the 50s and 60s, we used to buy bak kua from Singapore… Ya, ya…as they say, “beggars can’t be choosers” so as long as people give, I am thankful. Chinese say, got good luck, Malay says got rezeki… Hehehehehehe!!!!

      1. Acually Cleff,so far my encounter with msian custom are pretty okay, they r very friendly, speak good english too…n I just told them what I have in my luggage n they just waved me thru.

Ya…I usually have no problem with such personnel – dunno why people often have all kinds of complaints…

  3. hungry now. waiting for 6pm and go to eat a bowl of curry mee. LOL. that sausages look nice. never try it. so sad… huhuhu

You’re not in KL? Lots and lots of those there – places like Cold Storage, or if you go to the German restaurants… Gosh! Their sausages are not only extra-long, huge some more. Muahahahahaha!!!! And there’s this place – I think they have an outlet in 1Utama…can’t remember now – the name doesn’t sound like a makan place…Oh, never mind!

    1. naaa, i am in cowboy town. hahahaha. not in kl =_=|

Then I guess…you can get those red-coloured rubbery ones frozen forever in the freezer. Well, Ayamas is not too bad… 😉

  4. hey STP, so u didnt leave some for your girl? still a month more to go.. but i m sure they wont go bad, will they?

Expired…and I’m sure she would be more interested in eating our own local stuff when she comes home – must be sick of the ang moh stuff already. Can get those easily there.

    1. Claire… that sausage oredi expired la… =.= you see the expiry date… Cikgu kenot keep liao… later Melissa will lausai… den cham lorr! LOLOL!

Yah…real teruk if like that, then tinggal skin and bone – cicak kering like you, Somalian refugee…like she was in SP. 😦

  5. U meant you cooked them and freeze them again?

Yup…I figured they would last longer. Cooked food, if kept in the fridge, shouldn’t be kept for more that a few days – to the most, one week. But perhaps, I shouldn’t have bothered – already finished. Hehehehehe! 😀

  6. Yea aussie beef sausages are really good. They have barbecues here quite often at the campus village, and they’ll always have these sausages, with bread and fried onions. As always, I will take 3 servings or more. Ngeehehe greedy xD

Lucky you – and still so slim and small, not tua pui like me. I guess it’s true what the old people say – “tham ciak, ciak bay pui” (greedy people will never grow fat). LOL!!! 😉

  7. The first paragraph got me interested there for a while 😛

But the following.. aiyah… sausages pulaks!!!!!!!! 😀

Same…same…all can be eaten one! ROTFLMAO!!! 😀

  8. Not so much into sausages but the last pic looks so good!

Not our local frozen ones, not crazy over those…but these were good, and I love the German ones too – long and HUGE! LOL!!! 🙂

  9. And I know you like them long. LOL 😀

They taste different from ours ar?

You do? How do you know? Hehehehehe!!!!

They’re fresh sausages, still a bit of minced meat kind of feel…not rubbery, fish-cake texture like our frozen ones sold in supermarkets. You try those in German restaurants – you can feel the difference – so much nicer!

  10. Wow…it”s a good starter for breakfast..too bad i dont eat beef. Babi n chicken my fav..LOL!!

    I don’t mind – anyone will be fine for me… LOL!!! 😉

  11. i am not a sausage person, i don’t like sausage, till one day i try the “oink oink” one, it taste very good, if no, ayamas one also good.

The other day i get one brand, those mini cocktail sausage thought want to use it to do my “project” but once i open up, the stink smell just put me off and that packet of cocktail sausage it’s not spoilt, i don’t know why it smell so horrible. I told myself, no more this brand – Ayam D******!!

Your breakfast make me drool, now i want to eat my lunch.

I hardly ever buy sausages – once in a blue moon. Cocktails, I would buy the canned ones – Plumrose… Imported, so quite expensive. 😦

  12. the short date to expiry is if you keep the sausages in d fridge only. It’ll last longer if frozen.

I see… Well, it was in the fridge all the while when in Kuching, not in the freezer…and it was past the date already then. Some doctor-blogger once commented that it’s ok – will usually keep a lot longer that the dates specified…but I’m not taking any risk. Better be safe than sorry…

  13. Am not too crazy about australian made sausages, was never keen during my time there. The best ones are still the bratwursts from Germany, and there’s a company that makes really nice ones in Singapore…apparently jewish (go figure!).

The bread looks out of place…LOL!

Hah!!! So says the bread expert. I bought a loaf just to eat with the sausages…and probably will not be buying anymore for the next couple of months…maybe till Melissa gets home – she may want to eat toast sometimes, dunno if she still does.

The German ones are great – those at their restaurants…but I would usually want to eat their pork knuckles. SIGHHHHH!!!!! Hey! There’s this German guy making and selling in Kuching – and selling them like hot cakes…at the Kuching Festival and also the Lantern Festival. They had nice little cocktails at Carvery too… Haven’t been there for YEARS now.

P.S. David Marshall was Jewish and rumour had it that he loved ham… Go figure! LOL!!!

    1. Ya, I know the guy, Rudy is his name. I was given some “pumba” ones to try..just meh…”pumba” only nice a la Dimong style. Will try the others and let you know.

Marks & Spencer was (don’t know if still) jewish owned but sells pork products…hahaha….

Pumba sausages…Gee!!! That sounds quite Eurasian! LOL!!! Ah well, forgive us, Father, for we have sinned… LOL!!! 😉

  14. actually it’s true that the australian average length is longer than those of malaysians… are we talking about the sausage here?!! oops… anyways you didn’t state how many inches so i cannot measure it against my malaysian sausages from ayamas.. lol

Are you? Guess that’s for you to know and for everybody else to find out. Oh? You still measure those things in inches? Like during MY time? I thought everybody’s gone metric now…so they’re comparing centimetres? Muahahahahaha!!!!!

  15. Lol inches sounds much nicer compared to “how many centimetres are you?!!”

ROTFL!!! Now everybody knows what you’re talking about…. 😀

  16. Taiwan sausage taste better. German ones also good. I am scard of Woolworth or Coles Sausage.

Not a fan of Taiwan sausage…more or less like lap chiang, what people use to fry rice. I would rather have those that they sell at the char siew/roast meat shops. A whole lot nicer…

  17. STP, come over to Germany. I will treat you to real German food.

Sigh! Seems so far away… Would love to drop by…and go to England again, but just can’t get away. My mum’s bedridden…not senang-hati, going away for too long. These days, I only go on short weekend trips – if I need to.

  18. I love sausages with bread or with rice i just love it

I usually take sausages with bread/toast. Will only take it with rice if I fry it sliced with egg – make omelette.

  19. I love sausages with bread or with rice

Oops…duplicate. Sorry, your comments went to spam, so I had to retrieve them from there. Your first time here, I see – Ishmael’s friend. Welcome, welcome…so nice of you to drop by. Will link you in my blogroll…and do come again….often! 😉

  20. I tried these long and big sausages before..it’s nice and juicy! oh..now i feel like having one soon. sigh….

JB, no problem…or you can hop over to S’pore – even better!!! Can get all that you want! 😉

  21. O-M-G!! sausages!! i am a sausage lover, and you somemore have it with scrambled eggs and toasts.. makes me so hungry especially during midnight before you’re about to go to bed~~

Hahahaha!!! Hope you had sweet dreams of sausages… Wink! Wink! Muahahahaha!!!!

  22. taste like the expensive German sausage, I also want some!:D

Too late, all gone liao… But I’m sure you can get these in the supermarkets at your side – like Cold Storage, Tesco… Their ham/bacon/sausage sections are always so well-stocked with all kinds… Over here, no such thing! We people so very deprived…
