What took you so long…

I have not been to my regular Bandong stall for a long time – the one that sells all the scrumptious  Malay delights around lunch time every day. You see, they were operating later in the afternoon during Ramadhan – the Muslim fasting month…but I would be working around that time and was not able to drop by and pick an item or two. Then came Hari Raya Aidlifitri and they were closed for the auspicious occasion and had not resumed business since.

I asked around and I was told that they would start again on 1st October…but when I made my way there on that very day, I was disappointed to find that they were nowhere to be seen. Finally, on Monday, 4th October, they were back again in full swing. Gosh…it must have been almost two months since the last time I had anything from the stall.

I bought this prawn dish – gulai udang

…RM10.00 of it, so there was quite a lot for me and my missus. I guess I was being over-indulgent but they looked so good that I just could not resist. Sad to say, it was not as nice as the very spicy assam prawns that I used to buy from them…

These gulai udang that I bought this time around were pretty good too though – the prawns were very fresh and firm, so it wasn’t too bad really.

I also bought these pucuk kelapa sawit (oil palm shoots) for RM2.00…

…which was very nice but I would prefer it to be more lemak (richer with extra santan or coconut milk) but for RM2.00, I really had no cause for complaint.

All in all, I sure am glad that they’re finally back and whenever I feel lazy to cook anything, rest assured that you will find me there…
