This one’s for you…

Well, I guess by now, everybody would know that Annie and her twins were in Sibu and we went out together for kampua noodles. Unfortunately, I was not able to take them out for lunch or dinner as I reckoned she and the boys would want to spend the limited time they had in town with her/their mum/grandma. After all, Annie had not come home for two years now.

However, I did manage to drop by the house before they left as I had bought some Sarawak souvenir t-shirts for the boys to remind them of their heritage or where their mum originates from. This one has a picture of some traditional ethnic handwoven baskets…

…and this one show a Kayan/Kelabit headgear or sun hat…

I wish they had some cartoon ones that are more appropriate for kids, for instance, cartoon caricatures of an orang utan or a hornbill. I think they have those in Kuching as they do get more tourists there but in Sibu, I do not know of many places selling these t-shirts, so I did not have much of a choice actually.

Besides, if only they would indicate the sizes according to the children’s ages – e.g. 4-5 years old or 5-6 years old, it would have been a lot easier for me. I was at a total loss when I had to pick the t-shirts and the salesgirl was not of much help either – equally blur! In the end, I chose two but I am pretty sure they are way too big for the twins. I had imagined them to be much bigger and when I got to the house, somehow they did not look that big, after all. Sigh! Maybe Annie can keep them for Chinese New Year – two or three years or more from now. LOL!!!

Then, I stopped by Aroma Bakery (GPS coordinate 2.31103,111.831443) in the vicinity of the Dewan Surah (Civic Centre) in Sibu to buy them these chicken pies that I like a lot…

For Annie and her twins 3

They were piping hot from the oven and all the way home, while in the car, I was drooling away and wishing that I had bought an extra one for myself. Drats! Why didn’t I think of that?

I do hope you and the boys enjoyed the pies, Annie. It certainly was nice seeing you all again, do keep in touch and we’ll meet again sometime…

  1. I was some of the chicken pies too when i go your place, ok :p

me why not tito yet? Sotplug liao lor coz i just got new coat of paint in my “home”. Too excited.Messing around with paint.

Wah! FC today! Where’s your friend – the fairy? You’re becoming nocturnal like her, I see? She’s probably snoring away…like a steam engine. Painting your house? Gosh! I have not painted mine since I moved in some 30 years ago… You are most welcome to hop over here and paint mine too! LOL!!! 😀

    1. Fairy sini… pujuk her go sleep, she dowan. She sotplug today go paint ‘house’. =.= I no eye see… ahahahah. I teman her while she paint house la. Kesian, else she alone paint her house, takdak kawan. 😛 Now, she go off sleep d, dun worry. She’s a kucing. Also nocturnal creature.

Then the anak kucing wakes up, nobody jaga lor…Aiyor! So kesian! Child neglect! See Annie always at the children’s side – Sibu people like that lah…memang sayang anak! LOL!!!

      1. Anak kucing same like the ibu kucing kot? LOL…

Not sleeping all night? Aiyor…how to grow big and strong like that? Early to bed, early to rise…makes a man healthy and wise! And fat too, maybe! Hehehehe!!!

      2. As for me…anak go school…my work done at night… I can rest til anak come home. LOL…I feel better liddat, because he active ma… I need my energy when he comes home, else… I can go psycho…petang summore got a few students oso…. haiyorr, so timid… dono wud to do with them. 😦 From Chinese school. *sigh* They so takut teachers wan? Your students like this anot? Timid?

I dunno. My daughter went to Chinese kindergarten and became such a good girl – before that, just like yours or maybe worse. She learnt some Chinese…and one phrase was, “Kui chai na pian!!!” (Kneel over there!) No wonder she came home often with her knees all black! And she refused to go to school until we promised that she would go to a BM-medium primary school after kindergarten…and that was when she was only 5!!! Must have been a horrifying experience! When she was small, I also slept odd hours – everytime she slept, I would sleep too…for fear that she might not be sleeping later and I would have to stay awake with her.

  2. nice shirt! wow piping hot from oven, very very nice de lor! lol!

Nice…very very nice! Like my own homemade ones…but my pastry thicker! I love rich butter-fragrant pastry! Not just a lot of filling.

    1. u know how to make it??!!! next time i go visit u, must gimme! hahaha

Of course! You didn’t see my posts on my pies? Oh me oh my! No problem at all – if you will ever come this way.

  3. yoooo… now kathy same league with cleff.. both vampires or what? cannot sleep???
good morning STP, at least i sleep for 5 hours or so… and then wake up to see these fresh chicken pies here.. oooh, i also want la!!! come kathy, we go cari makan in sibu.. OK? STP will feed us well well one, i m sure.. as for cleff, … er… er….

Come, come… I am waiting!!!! Cleff, can come but too bad…cannot eat because the hours she’s awake – all kedai closed… Sibu not like KL – city that never sleeps. All kuai-kaui sleep early – that’s why you see me so big, strong and friendly!!! Hahahaha!!!

    1. @Claire…Cheyyy… say me pulak.. you la Claire… she keep ‘paint’ her rumah! She go main main with her new paints. LOL…I teman her onli la.
@I wan kampua noodles! LOL…sini tarak sell!

Hahahaha!!! You ladies so busy tukar baju… Maybe I should change mine too. Like they say, if you can;t beat them, join them. LOL!!! Kampua? Come to Sibu lor…. Hehehehehe!

  4. Nice shirt. Must be very expensive aye. I want your chicken pie. 😀

Come and visit me in Sibu. I’ll buy you both t-shirtand pies… Hehehehe!!!

  5. Now I know EXACTLY where you bought the chicken pie and if I too wanted to have a try, I know where to get them now. No need to drive for 5+ extra minutes around Civic Center region trying to locate the shop. Thanks for the co-ordinate, STP.

    http://itouchmap.com/latlong.html

That is if the coordinate is accurate… Incidentally, I forgot to mention that the pies will only be ready around lunchtime – none in the morning and on 2-4-6, they have curry puffs too. I haven’t tried myself…but I hear they’re very good…. Must drop by and get some one of these days! 🙂

  6. Wuah! Why lah put GPS coordinate? So not your style. Hahaha! Not as if nobody knows where Dewan Suarah is also. Anyway, the pies look sooooooo nice! *drool drool*

Hahahaha!!! Who knows? People driving to Sibu on weekends may want to go. They would not know where it is…but if they have GPS, they can find it easily. STP canggih mah!!! GPS konon! Hahahahaha!!!! 😀

    1. Oh ya! Just saw it. Got people actually dunno 😛

Oh? That one!!! That one’s a businessman. To all businessmen, time is gold. Where got time to waste raun-raun like we people? In 5 minutes, they may be able to make more money than what we get in a month? True or not, Kong? Muahahahaha!!!! 😀

  7. Sure I know where is the Civic Center. But if I were unlucky and have to drive through the several lanes around it to locate the shop, it could have taken me 5 – 10 minutes. Now, I can make a bee line to it and wasted 0 minute doing so.

In the past, business establishment only have name, address and phone number being advertised. Nowadays, some are also giving out their email and even website. I foresee in the future, many will start giving out their GPS co-ordinate as well.

Ya…instead of drawing the map, like that makan place in Puchong you linked to a few posts ago… To get there, one must get to Puchong first and with just that map, people from elsewhere like me would not know how to get to Puchong. That’s where the GPS may come in handy…

  8. Mmmm, chicken pies…..luckily I just made some last night……if not will be drooling thinking about it! LOL

Oh? I guess you will be posting on it next? Hehehehehe!!!!

  9. Ohh….pies!!! I like pastry. With full buttery smell. Next time u buy me Sibu pies, I buy you S’ban siew pau. haha…

That’s so sweet of you to buy the twins some soveniour to be brought back to KL. T=shirt will not rot. Can keep till they are big enough to wear.

Don’t like Seremban siew pao, no thank you…but not to worry! You come to Sibu, I will surely buy you those yummy chicken pies. I wonder if Annie will put up a post on them or not…

  10. Ohh, I personally like the 1st T-shirt, the one with handwoven baskets! Nice pastry… wish one day i would have chance to drop by your place to enjoy your local cuisine!
    Cheers!

Come, come!!! And when you come, I can get you one of those t-shirts to give you as souvenir from Sibu! Hahahaha!!! And I can bring you around to enjoy all the Sibu delicacies too! 😀

    1. Sure or not?! I have got 2 rascals, an apek and ah ma, my mom, 3 brothers, 3 kids, my in-laws to join you for dinner leh~! (Opps haven’t mention myself and husband!!) ^-^

Seriously, one day I’d drop by Sibu… but won’t want to trouble you lar! Thanks for your hospitality! Have a nice day!

For dinner, no trouble…but if want to stay at my house, also no problem…just that have to sleep in the living room on the floor – longhouse style – like sardines all lined up neatly. Hahahahaha!!!

      1. LOL~!! Still very kind of you even though if we had to stay in the living room! 😉

Yes, I’m kind…a nice and sweet old man! 😉

  11. I like the t-shirts, mmmmmmmmmmm can give ka,? hahahah just kidding, man you are such nice a man.

Of course! You’ve met me before…and you know what a sweet, nice man I am! Right or not, Claire! LOL!!! 😀

  12. I must say, that’s one of the best looking and “Sarawakian” looking T-Shirt I have ever seen. How about the name of shop & GPS co-ordinate? I might go buy some as gift some day for some one…..

Sarawak House lah…or what some people call Premier! No need for GPS. That’s the only shop that I know selling such t-shirts – quite expensive, if you ask me. You know of any other places, tell me hor! Can get at that shop at the airport but if I’m not mistaken, it is extraordinarily expensive there…and also the other shop – but you have to be going somewhere to buy as it is inside the departure lounge!

  13. these t-shirts are too serious. they should have funny ones or eye-catching ones..

Yalor…not so bad for adults but for kids, not really suitable. They should have some in Kuching – I used to buy for my daughter when she was small. Really cute, funny ones – cartoons…with witty captions. Maybe when I go to Kuching this weekend, if I have the chance…I may stop at the shops and grab some. Just keep at home in case anybody coming to Sibu with their kids. So who will be coming soon? Hahahahaha!!! 😀

  14. let me check AA for Sibu fare now!! I also want to go there! Kathy and Cleff, jom kita pegi visit Cikgu and the PIE… 😮

I been to Kuching and Miri, but not Sibu.. hehehe..

I am waiting!!! You ask Annie lah – that pie nice or not!!! And only RM2.80 – nicer than what I had at places like Delifrance where they cost a bomb! And I had pies at other bakeries – all not nice! Not worth the calories! 😦

    1. 😦 Cyn… I takut AA la…turbulence that time, very horrifying wan AA. 😦 Very, very bad experience with them. Wait I go dig my daddy’s MAS account… see when MAS got 70% off…I fly MAS go there. Ask me take AA again, i cry, I tell you.

@Cikgu…pie…in KL here… nearby my house got ppl sell pies…but they walk around while selling it by carrying a tray, no stall, no nothing. They will come to you when you sit down and eat. It’s very nice. Rm2.50 each. Inside, got chic, potatoes and mushroom…. :(but dono where the heck the pie groups are now… now never see them anymore. Best pie I ever makan-ed. But kenot find them anymore.

The flights are ok… What I don’t like is LCCT and the pre-flight hassle. MAS had 70% every day…but limited seats, so depending on your luck. Does not include airport tax and all that, so overall total…may be a bit more. Wow! RM2.50 for a pie in KL? Incredible. Maybe they did not have to pay income tax…non-licensed.

  15. So nice of you STP to get the boys t-shirts! Luckily you got them bigger ones instead of smaller. At least the t-shirts can be kept until they’re older! And those chicken pies looked absolutely tantalizing! I want them too!!!!!!!!!!! 😛

The other day, I already invited you and Saucer to hop over to Sibu. Come lah! Definitely cheaper than going to China. Better travel before any baby comes – then tied down already…and activities when here also somewhat restricted.

  16. phew! Finally clear most of the work, now i am here to comment! hahahahhahha

HAHA!!!! I took the picture of the pies and the tee shirts too!! Want to blog about it, looks like you’re faster than me!!! I got a lot to blog but still can’t find time yet!

Yes, the pies very very yummy!!! You know what, my mum went to the bakery shop last night and the lady told my mum don’t have, and need to reserve. Like you said have to go there during noon time. My mum called me just now and told me she got her pies, she so happy, she is not a pies person just like me, but she love this pies. I think Aroma bakery will see her face very often from now onwards. hahahhahahahah Must ask Aroma bakery to paid you for the free advertising.

Thanks again for the yummy pies and the lovely tee shirts for my boys and to take the trouble to travel all the way to my mum house, many thanks STP!!

I don’t think they need to wait 2-3 years to wear that, they are tall but skinny, i think they can wear it in another few months time. I will take a picture of them wearing and post it up. 🙂

LOL!!! Glad to hear that. You must tell your mum they have curry puffs 2-4-6. I hear they are very nice but I haven’t had the chance to buy some and try yet. Maybe tomorrow – it’s 4! Ya…the pies are so nice and the best part – only RM2.80! No need to go through all the trouble to make my own now – last time, no choice, all the pies around here horrible!

  17. gee…..i’ve not eaten chicken pie in a looonnggg time…..HINT! HINT!

Well, will see if I can get hold of any tomorrow. You’ll have to settle for frozen ones as I’ll be taking a morning flight.

  18. @ OMG, Kathy tengah busy paint hse or wat and Cleff went teman her ICI her hse ka…hahaha…

Hmm…so at the moment, Cleff, Kathy, Claire, Cynthia and myself targeting to visit STP, the so called ambassador of SIBU lor..somemore with his latest style plotting GPS coordinates…So when is the next cheap fares to Sibu. Btw, what hotel u recommend us to stay or if we shud just campaign front of ur hse…hahhahah..

Depending on how many will be coming – guest room enough for three, maybe more if squeeze a little… Otherwise, there are good hotels -around RM60 a night unless you want to go for the classier ones – around RM100 plus only. Cheap! Not like KL…

  19. Now I am never a person for pie but since STP recommended it highly, I decided to pop into my car and get myself some just now. And yes, I would say it’s definitely one of the better tasting pie with strong buttery taste so I think it’s reasonably priced.

And since I do know the location of Civic Center, there is no need to switch on any GPS device. But I still checked with google maps the exact location (thanks for the spot on co-ordinates, STP) because I know Civic Center isn’t exactly a one-street small place and I don’t fancy driving around in circles looking for it. Not unless I am 30 years younger and with a Sweet Young Thing beside me. Then it will be a different story.

Humph! Wait till your wife hears that! Will give you an injection you’ll never forget! Oops! LOL!!! Wow! That’s real fast!!! You’ve gone to buy and eat already!!! Gosh…all those people must pay me for the promo!!! Even Annie’s mum went to buy too…!!! 😀

P.S.: Wah! My coordinate spot-on??? Gee! I’m getting to be very good at this. Muahahahaha!!!!

  20. lol.. I get headhunter T-shirt only.. got bored with the hornbills.. 😛 but there are more choices in kuching.. like the orang utans… 😀

Ya…all along Main Bazaar! Just about every shop is selling…

  21. Bo hu, hay mah ho. Correct or not? 🙂

Ok…will drop by tomorrow. Wanna buy their curry puffs to try. I hear they’re nice… Gosh! The chicken pies are going places. Went to KL, now to Kuching! 🙂

  22. I am going to Aroma Bakery now! Ops…I guess too late. Need to be early tomorrow. See if I had the time to sneak out and go buy it or not. Loaded with works…
Now I had to go to sleep with my mind thinking of the pies after read Annie’s comment on the pies. I am so gonna get the pies soon!

Oh no! Don’t go today (Thursday)! I’m going to sapu habis to bring to Kuching…and it does not look like they make a lot – maybe half a dozen or so only. Next week, I go and buy some more – you sms me, tell me where your office is…and I deliver to you! 🙂

  23. HAHAHAHAHA…now i read your reply to CK!! I told my mum better go early today to get, because STP going to sapu all the pies and bring to kuching!!!!

My mum thought want to buy again today and also got order from her friend!!! LOL!!!

Aroma Bakery sure think why lately suddenly so many people queueing for her pies and curry puff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I went there! So crowded!!! But nothing! CURRY PUFFS habis liao!!! *screaming head off!!! Chicken pies still in oven – I booked already, will collect this evening! Hahahahaha!!!!

  24. Nice t-shirt ! Need to promote more Sarawak product.
Sibu is famous produce chicken pies? Never hear it before.
    So you are fowchow right.

Yalor…otherwise, those people over there dunno much about us over here mah and not interested in coming over for a visit! Would rather go to China, Japan, Bali… Yes, I’m Foochow. Nope, Sibu is not famous for chicken pies…just that I stumbled upon this place that makes very nice ones – so I’ve been buying for myself and for friends.

  25. i know some dirty foochow language only.

Oh dear! No need to teach me, I also know! LOL!!! But I do no speak the dialect though – very strange for somebody living in Sibu hor? 🙂

  26. OMG….
Should have got them when I was back in Sibu. I would have given you a BIG (not a wee) discount.
I do apologise for the sales girl’s blurness.

LOL!!! It’s ok. Buying once in a blue moon. Your family business, must support – never mind!

  27. LOL. I will repay your loyalty with hotel key cards that I have been collecting for you. It was a shame we weren’t able to meet up at the past CNY, but definitely will have to pass them to you when I go home next.

Yup…I was away, I guess…and by the time I got back, it was time for you to go back. Next time, we’ll meet up for sure.
