True true happiness…

True happiness is when there’s good food and good company or at least, that’s the case with me…and ever so often when I fly over to Kuching, my cousins there a.k.a. The Gluttons’ Club  or what has been more recently christened the Dimong Gastronomic Society, would arrange to gather for dinner and indulge in the culinary delights in store as well as the endless jokes and roaring laughter.

Well, during my trip to Kuching over the weekend, we gathered at the Sweet Happiness Restaurant located at Lorong Canna in the Stutong vicinity and we had the yin yang noodles…

…which had some mihun that had been deep fried till crispy and  kway teow served with all the gravy and ingredients poured over them. As Randy Jackson would put it, it was aye…it was aye!

On the other hand, the champagne pork was really great…

…something like the sour plum chicken (serng boi kay) at the Nice House Restaurant in Sibu except that the chicken was more often than not, over-fried and hard. In the case of the meat in this one, it was nice and tender and flavourful.

The tofu dish was nice…

…but so are those that we can get from other restaurants elsewhere, even here in Sibu.

The fried cangkuk manis was good too…

Oops! Sorry for the blurry photo…and comparatively, I think what we get at the Ruby Restaurant is a teeny weeny bit nicer. But like I said, it was good and definitely better than a lot of places here in Sibu.

I love the crispy or chian Kuching-style…

…which is completely different from the West Malaysian version, be it in KL or Penang. I really enjoyed it that night and the Nestum prawns too…

Very fresh prawns, very well done!

My only regret was I should have gone slow with all those irresistably yummy dishes as when the highlight of the evening – the salted egg crabs – came, I was already too full to savour its flavour and enjoy it to the fullest…

The crabs were a bit small but tastewise, it was two thumbs up!!! Here’s a closer look at the dish…

Perhaps we should go there again and have nothing else but crabs. But I think I heard Lindy praising its fish curry to the skies all night, so perhaps we can try that too! LOL!!!

Thanks a lot for the dinner treat, fellow-Dimongs, from me and my missus. It sure was great getting together like this with all of you plus the three aunties too…and I certainly hope we can do that again sometime. Next round in Sibu perhaps, everybody? My treat this time!
