I mentioned in an earlier post that I did not have any photos to share as I did not take any when Annie-Q was in town but Facebook friends of hers would be able to see the ones she took as she had shared a whole lot of them there.
Ok…ok…just for those of you who are not her friends, I will pinch her photographs of the things we had when we went out together for dinner and post them here. I wanted to take her here…but it was closed so we ended up here instead. Well, being so deprived of all her local favourites over there in KL, we just had to order the fried midin (wild fern)…
Just look at Annie’s son, Fearles, enjoying eating that…
LOL!!! We also ordered the must-have cangkuk manis fried with egg…
I would think that both the veggie dishes were all right.
Actually, this place is so very popular for its kampua noodles…
A lot of people love it and are always praising it to the skies but I think it is somewhat overrated. It is very nice, no doubt, but there are others just as nice or even nicer elsewhere.
It is the same with its chicken rice…
I went to eat it once but it did not get me jumping up and down with delight. Well, that night, we ordered the rice, in place of plain white rice, to eat with the dishes we were having and instead of the chicken, we ordered their very famous original-style roast duck…
…which was all right and again, it wasn’t anything to shout about. Annie thought it was rather dry and would prefer the Hongkong-style ones and I must say that I quite agree with her.
I enjoyed their sweet and sour pork ribs though…
I thought they were very nicely done…and to wash all that down, we had the Foochow-style tofu soup…
All things considered, we did enjoy the dinner and it would be a worthwhile place to drop by for a bite. For one thing, business was really good and the place was quite crowded…so to be on the safe side, it would be best to make a booking earlier. But personally, I would think that if you only have a few days here and would need to set priorities, there are some other places that may give you a more lasting impression, if you get what I mean.

*horrified* midin with belacan kah? Eh? Chamz… I tot if u go makan with Annie I would be quite safe as she dun take belacan. (She dun take belacan, rite? I tot she dun take) *pengsan* Now I feel like wanna makan that! Haizzz
She ordered for the midin to be cooked with Foochow red wine…but it came out – no taste of red wine and no taste of belacan either. Maybe they use oyster sauce…but it tasted good, so it was ok.

Typical Sibu Foochow…but many here already converted. That’s why the best Bintulu belacan’s now over RM50 a kg. So expensive…like eating gold. 😦
Sweet and sour pork! have i told you yet it’s my favourite? No? Well it is! Lol, go to any chinese restraurant, and this would be my staple dish =x

All my favourite vegetable dishes; midin and cangkuk manis! I can eat a plate of those without rice. hehehe!
LOL!!! Make sure you chew them well. Both do not digest easily especially the cangkuk manis.

Gosh!…I would love to have all the dishes by myself except the roast duck. Yup!…agree with Annie that the roast duck seems rather too dry, no sauce to go with kah?
Yes, it was the sauce that saved the day! The sauce was very nice…so the duck was really very good when dipped in the special sauce. Aiyor…like this also drool kah? I’m sure many places in Kuching, you can get food that’s a lot nicer.
Fearles will grow up to be a handsome boy. He has a twin brother rite? Not in the picture? Shy?

Cruz taste bud more to Cantonese , he doesn’t like foochow food . He likes food with stronger taste . I surprise , Fearles ok with the food and he tends to eat more in Sibu . 🙂

I love wild fern!! I can finish that plate by myself! All the other dishes looks good too. Mmm. second thought, I don’t want to finish that place of fern by myself, I want to have room in my stomach to taste every dish:D
Yes, I usually order a lot of veg dishes – nice and healthier…and a lot cheaper compared to meat or worse, seafood! 😉
Not Jack Smith with “You Asked For It?” never missed this show those day which was my favorite especially at the ending when he said…’Youuuuuuuuuuuu Asked…’ hahaha. Someone didnt like the ‘NEW YAFi’ with the lady co-host dunno why leh? Time change people change I guess. We have now the new host Arthur Wee of “You Tanya For It” in our local version haha. Whoa paku chai and shee chai choy Bananaz’s favorite.

Actually we went back to ta pow the taufu soup and the chicken rice for my grandpa on Sunday , thinking he will like the soup.
Yes, you did say you’ll be spending your hols in Singapore. Enjoy the mad balik kampung crush at the airport. I hear not only LCCT but KLIA also. Thank goodness nobody’s flying to Sibu – one person arriving or leaving the whole kampung would be there.
The food was good and we enjoyed it – very full…but I think that place is more expensive than elsewhere? I did eat a lot – more than usual. Would be nice to sit and chat longer but with children, that would be quite impossible… Sigh!!! Parenthood! 😦

If the food at this place just so-so only, Kita kasi it a miss but can tah-pau the midin and sweet and sour pork,ah?…they look so darn good…beh tahan!
Also, Cleffairy and Claire should join us when I’m there…that way, more people lagi banyak chance to try more food..true or not?

Children. Some are so easy to feed, some can be such a pain… When I was young, my mum would put the greens on my plate and the cane beside her. Muahahahahahaha!!!!

I liked New Capitol, that spread looks quite inviting. I like my food dry so I think I would probably like the roast duck. That little guy looks like he’s having a good time, attacking the midin, I like his name too. Fearles by name fearless by nature.
The restaurant has been around for a long long time…and old die-hards would love it – like Hock Chiu Leu. It is nice but not really cheap…and parking in that area is a real pain. That’s why I don’t usually choose to go there… 😦
