You asked for it…

I mentioned in an earlier post that I did not have any photos to share as I did not take any when Annie-Q was in town but Facebook friends of hers would be able to see the ones she took as she had shared a whole lot of them there.

Ok…ok…just for those of you who are not her friends, I will pinch her photographs of the things we had when we went out together for dinner and post them here. I wanted to take her here…but it was closed so we ended up here instead. Well, being so deprived of all her local favourites over there in KL, we just had to order the fried midin (wild fern)…

Just look at Annie’s son, Fearles, enjoying eating that…

LOL!!! We also ordered the must-have cangkuk manis fried with egg…

I would think that both the veggie dishes were all right.

Actually, this  place is so very popular for its kampua noodles…

A lot of people love it and are always praising it to the skies but I think it is somewhat overrated. It is very nice, no doubt, but there are others just as nice or even nicer elsewhere.

It is the same with its chicken rice…

I went to eat it once but it did not get me jumping up and down with delight. Well, that night, we ordered the rice, in place of plain white rice, to eat with the dishes we were having and instead of the chicken, we ordered their very famous original-style roast duck…

…which was all right and again, it wasn’t anything to shout about. Annie thought it was rather dry and would prefer the Hongkong-style ones and I must say that I quite agree with her.

I enjoyed their sweet and sour pork ribs though…

I thought they were very nicely done…and to wash all that down, we had the Foochow-style tofu soup…

All things considered, we did enjoy the dinner and it would be a worthwhile place to drop by for a bite. For one thing, business was really good and the place was quite crowded…so to be on the safe side, it would be best to make a booking earlier. But personally, I would think that if you only have a few days here and would need to set priorities, there are some other places that may give you a more lasting impression, if you get what I mean.

  1. *horrified* midin with belacan kah? Eh? Chamz… I tot if u go makan with Annie I would be quite safe as she dun take belacan. (She dun take belacan, rite? I tot she dun take) *pengsan* Now I feel like wanna makan that! Haizzz

She ordered for the midin to be cooked with Foochow red wine…but it came out – no taste of red wine and no taste of belacan either. Maybe they use oyster sauce…but it tasted good, so it was ok.

    1. Cleff , you know me well too , yes i am not a belacan person . 🙂

Typical Sibu Foochow…but many here already converted. That’s why the best Bintulu belacan’s now over RM50 a kg. So expensive…like eating gold. 😦

  2. Sweet and sour pork! have i told you yet it’s my favourite? No? Well it is! Lol, go to any chinese restraurant, and this would be my staple dish =x

Yes, you have…many times! LOL!!! Come, come to Sibu and you can have all you want. LOL!!! 😀

    1. Hahaha, i will keep telling you. XD can’t get enough of it. lol!, I hope to be able to go there soon though.

Btw, my hands were itchy and I went and open a new blog under blogspot, but this is mobile blogging on the go. Meaning I just use my phone, snap a picture, write one paragraph and immediate post it up. LOL, no stress of blogging, hehe. Check it out below, but be warned, the posts are all VERY short!

      http://photo.isaactan.net

I love short posts. Easy and fast to download. LOL!!! Blogspot? You mean wordpress? I think I clicked on it already…but there was no post yet at the time…

      P.S.
Oh! It IS blogspot…and I like this one better. More natural, more you…not one of those forced-to-write-about-it events…and everyone who is there will be writing the same thing, posting more or less the same photos. One word – boring! Wah…so many posts already. Will go over later, read slowly and comment. Nice one!

  3. Ohhh, the sweet and sour pork ribs really appetizing! I like eating fern too, very tender like eating vegie’s shoot. YUM! Happy weekend!

Yes, the dinner was great… And now poor Annie will have to puasa again…until the next time she comes home. 🙂

  4. All my favourite vegetable dishes; midin and cangkuk manis! I can eat a plate of those without rice. hehehe!

LOL!!! Make sure you chew them well. Both do not digest easily especially the cangkuk manis.

  5. I am also a fan of sweet & sour pork ribs! The fearless son sure looks handsome!

Yes, her twins are ver good looking. She will have a hard time keeping the girls away… 😉

    1. Thanks for the compliment Twilight Man . His name should be minus one “s”, Fearles . 🙂

Yes, not the Jet Li movie – the theme song by Jay Chou one…don’t confuse. LOL!!!

  6. Love the greens.. want the greens only…. give me these 2 dishes and I will quietly eat my rice.. hahahaa…

Wah! You’re very cheap to feed then… Muahahahahaha!!!

  7. Nice & appetizing dishes. Seems to be drooling over almost every post of yours, if not all.

Gosh!…I would love to have all the dishes by myself except the roast duck. Yup!…agree with Annie that the roast duck seems rather too dry, no sauce to go with kah?

Yes, it was the sauce that saved the day! The sauce was very nice…so the duck was really very good when dipped in the special sauce. Aiyor…like this also drool kah? I’m sure many places in Kuching, you can get food that’s a lot nicer.

    1. Fearles will grow up to be a handsome boy. He has a twin brother rite? Not in the picture? Shy?

Not shy. I think Cruz does not eat as well…or more playful, not so much into eating. 😉

      1. Thank you Irene . 🙂

Cruz taste bud more to Cantonese , he doesn’t like foochow food . He likes food with stronger taste . I surprise , Fearles ok with the food and he tends to eat more in Sibu . 🙂

But he looks more like the father, dark…and Cruz looks like the mum, also so fair. Good mix. LOL!!! 😀

  8. I love wild fern!! I can finish that plate by myself! All the other dishes looks good too. Mmm. second thought, I don’t want to finish that place of fern by myself, I want to have room in my stomach to taste every dish:D

Yes, I usually order a lot of veg dishes – nice and healthier…and a lot cheaper compared to meat or worse, seafood! 😉

  9. Not Jack Smith with “You Asked For It?” never missed this show those day which was my favorite especially at the ending when he said…’Youuuuuuuuuuuu Asked…’ hahaha. Someone didnt like the ‘NEW YAFi’ with the lady co-host dunno why leh? Time change people change I guess. We have now the new host Arthur Wee of “You Tanya For It” in our local version haha. Whoa paku chai and shee chai choy Bananaz’s favorite.

Just hop to Sibu and you’ll get them both and more. Why? Because youuuuu……asked for it! LOL!!! 😀

  10. Thanks for blog on behalf !!! If wait for me I really don’t know till when , maybe will have to wait till I come back from a short short trip from Singapore !! Leaving tomorrow and back on Tue .
Hope you and your missus enjoy the food , but maybe the food I order look not so appealing ar ? See you two eat so little , I really don’t know what to order , fail . Should have waited for my mum to order .

Actually we went back to ta pow the taufu soup and the chicken rice for my grandpa on Sunday , thinking he will like the soup.

Yes, you did say you’ll be spending your hols in Singapore. Enjoy the mad balik kampung crush at the airport. I hear not only LCCT but KLIA also. Thank goodness nobody’s flying to Sibu – one person arriving or leaving the whole kampung would be there.

The food was good and we enjoyed it – very full…but I think that place is more expensive than elsewhere? I did eat a lot – more than usual. Would be nice to sit and chat longer but with children, that would be quite impossible… Sigh!!! Parenthood! 😦

  11. Aiya , ter-press .

Thank you for your time. It’s a bit rush dinner that night . My boys naughty and my mum not so ” social” kekekekekkeke

LOL!!! I think your mum was not comfortable with the boys around, wondering what they will be up to next. I was ok with it – like I said Melissa was no angel when she was little. Thank goodness she outgrew that…but then again, now a bit too quiet… Sigh!

  12. Interesting choice of name for one’s child. Guess he has no choice but to be fearless.

Not really fearless – see the fierce mum, already scared. Muahahahahaha!!!! 😀 I think his father has a unique name too…but can’t recall what it is right now.

    1. Gerrie , you’re right , name him Fearles , but he look more gentle , shy and ” chicken ” LOL , not that Fear- Less .

Appearance can be deceptive… Got girlfriend already wor…your head is going to pening liao lor. Muahahahahaha!!! 😀

  13. Arthur,
If the food at this place just so-so only, Kita kasi it a miss but can tah-pau the midin and sweet and sour pork,ah?…they look so darn good…beh tahan!
Also, Cleffairy and Claire should join us when I’m there…that way, more people lagi banyak chance to try more food..true or not?
How do you pronounce that handsome boy’s name..Fearles as in Fearless?…very unique.

Don’t worry…when you are here, I’ll get you to eat only the best in town. 😉 Tapao food, not so nice lah…so we’ll have to be selective. 2nd best places, forget about them. 😉 I guess the “les” is not as pronounced as “less” a little bit.

  14. Fearles must been have taught well to loveeeee his greens by Annie-Q. Much evidence was found on him as he was about to swallow a mouthful of greens 😛

Children. Some are so easy to feed, some can be such a pain… When I was young, my mum would put the greens on my plate and the cane beside her. Muahahahahahaha!!!!

  15. I liked New Capitol, that spread looks quite inviting. I like my food dry so I think I would probably like the roast duck. That little guy looks like he’s having a good time, attacking the midin, I like his name too. Fearles by name fearless by nature.

The restaurant has been around for a long long time…and old die-hards would love it – like Hock Chiu Leu. It is nice but not really cheap…and parking in that area is a real pain. That’s why I don’t usually choose to go there… 😦

  16. Good looking boy, there. Where’s the other half of the twin? Why no photo, STP?

He was around, picking on his food and not eating as well…so the mum did not take his photo.
