I was absolutely positive I had seen this banner somewhere before…
I don’t know what the Mandarin characters mean but lou chow in Hokkien sounds like “old bird” – which I must say is not a flattering name for a chicken rice place to have. If I remember correctly, it used to be at a coffee shop along Jalan Maju facing the Rejang Esplanade, not far from the Sibu Express Boat Terminal.
I’m not sure whether they have moved or this is a branch but this one’s at the coffee shop right behind the Sibu Polyclinic along Oya Road. My missus and I stopped by for lunch the other day and there was this handsome young man manning the stall…
I must say that the rice wasn’t bad at all – slightly yellowish and quite fragrant…
…and we had the roast chicken…
…which was good. I did not see any steamed chicken that afternoon – probably they were all sold out.
The roast pork was good too…
…but I did not think very much of the char siew (barbecue pork) – there are much nicer ones elsewhere.
All that meat and the slices of cucumber underneath plus two plates of rice and complimentary soup (which was very nice unlike the ones we usually get here or here) came up to RM11.00.
As a whole, I would say that it was good enough should anyone happen to be in the vicinity and is thinking of having chicken rice for lunch but I would definitely not go out of my way just for that…
