It felt like just yesterday when my old friend, Jasmine, presently residing in Adelaide, Australia, was home for a few days but that was actually 5 years ago in 2014! Funny how time does seem to fly these days!
Well, I did not get to see her when she got into town as she had other commitments lined up and we could only meet the evening of her second day in town when my good friend/ex-classmate, Robert and his wife Angela, hosted a dinner at a local restaurant and invited me to join them…
We had this lovely dish of roast chicken served in that old school style, buried under pieces of some very nice keropok (prawn crackers)…
…and we also had this huge plate of Foochow fried noodles…
…and this mixed vegetable dish…
This is called the Green Dragon vegetable (青龙菜) or the royale chives…
…which I hear is not available locally and is served at this restaurant by special order. I quite enjoyed it – it had a slight hint of the fragrance of regular chives.

…was served, we were already filled to the brim so I just had a small piece of the fish and yes, it was very nice.
It sure was a lovely dinner and most of all, it is always great to get together with friends to chit chat and catch up with one another’s lives. Food looks good and so is the great company of old friend and ex-classmates. A few of hours chit chatting won’t be enough for the night. One will just hope that the clock will tick slowly before we bid each other good night and bye.
Yes, there was so much to talk about and catch up that we were still at it by the time everyone had left and the members of the staff were standing around waiting for us to go so they could close shop and call it a day.
Royale chives? Hmm. Look like normal greens to me. Steamed tapah. Yummy.
Time does fly very fast. I stayed in Sibu early July in 2013 and then on November 2014, I was moving back to Kuching.
Slight hint of chives, not that strong but at the end of the day, it did not impress me. Never a fan of chives, anyway. I’d go for our midin or cangkok manis anytime. I’m not into tapah but what we had that night was good, no smell.
What? You were here for just a year plus? Hmmm….
since jasmine is back only once every five years, i’m sure she appreciates all these opportunities to catch up with beloved people and beloved food! 😀
She most certainly does, going back to enjoy the things she loves, never mind that there are other better ones now.
It really is amazing how quickly time passes, yet still stands still with good friends.
Yes, clock is ticking, age is catching up, cherish every moment one can spend together with good friends.
