We were still quite full after our lunch that afternoon so we decided to skip dinner and go for the novena and sunset service at our regular church and drop by some place for something after that.
My girl wanted to come here for the pecel lele with the ikan keli…
…but it did not look like she enjoyed it much. The rice was not wrapped in banana leaf like before…usually and the fish did not seem to taste as nice – I think it was the way they marinated it and other than that, I was quite doubtful as to how fresh the fish was as I thought it tasted like those that had been frozen a bit too long.
I had the ayam penyet nasi goreng…
…which was all right. I particularly liked the fried rice…
…but they seemed kind of stingy with the sambal now – they used to give a lot more.
My missus asked what the lalapan ayam penyet was and the girl said the ulam would be different and when she was served, it turned out to be more or less the same except that they gave sambal belacan (dried prawn paste) with it and it was not spicy so she was not in the least impressed.
The late dinner/supper came up to over RM30.00, inclusive of drinks and we also had satay (RM16.00), lamb and chicken…
…from the stall in front of the coffee shop next door, RM1.00 per stick be it chicken, lamb or beef and it was nice – they have a stall there at night now. I did not order the beef as usually, I found the ones at these Malay stalls a bit too tough to chew.
I would not say what we had that night was overwhelming – they should look into their quality control a bit more seriously – so I don’t think we would be in a hurry to come back here again all that soon.

Food control is important aspect in food industry. Sonehow the quality dropped. Hope it was just a one time case.
Probably better in the daytime. The boss and his wife who would do the cooking usually were all not around, gone home already. I would stay away from places where they simply leave things to their workers.
The satay does look big. Like how you relate quality control to the food prepared, did you tell them about the decline in quality of the food?
No, I do not do something like that – I just don’t bother dropping by, anymore.
Your ayam penyet nasi goreng and satay looks good. I think they are quite generous with the sambal. I have come across some that gives tiny tweeny bits of sambal.
In the past, the sambal used to be overflowing…or they would put a whole lot onto the paper, no need for that little plastic saucer.
i guess local beef is always gonna be a bit too chewy unless it’s really slow-cooked – and that’s not possible for satay! even pork satay can get kinda tough 🙂
It’s not local beef – believe it or not, we can’t get fresh beef here. Dunno where the ones they use is imported from, hard…inedible! Thankfully, lamb is ok – I’m not really a fan of chicken…or pork satay.
I still haven’t found a good ayam penyet place. Those that I have tried made me wonder what is so special about ayam penyet.
This one used to be good and there are a few good ones around but some can be very disappointing. Not that cheap some more.
I know it seems very ungrateful of me when I am fortunate to have three meals a day, but I get really disappointed when a meal is not good.
…and even more so when there is poor quality control. When I go back some place expecting something really nice like when I had it before, only to find that it is not as nice any longer, I will think twice about ever going there again.
