If I remember correctly, Huai Bin was here once before…
…and I think ah^kam_koko’ likes the place too and I’ve seen photographs of the food served here, as well as some positive and a few not-very-positive feedback here and there, and since parking in the area isn’t exactly a breeze, I have not bothered to drop by all this while even though it has been around for quite sometime now.
If I’m not mistaken, ย that is not the name of the place but the franchise it is affiliated to and as a matter of fact, the actual name is…
…and it is part of this bakery in town located right across the road from Wisma Sanyan…
…which, as you can see in the photograph, is all spruced up for the forthcoming Chinese New Year Festival in a few days’ time.
I would say it is a rather nice place…
– you can opt to sit downstairs in a small section to the left of the bakery…
…or you can go upstairs where it is more spacious and if you sit by the side, you can watch the people and the cars go by.
We dropped by for lunch the other day and we ordered the lunch sets which came with a complimentary drink of our respective choices from the two given in each set…
…and each of us also got this dessert-of-the-day…
I asked the cute and handsome waiter if that was red velvet and he said he did not know. Period. For reasons known only to them, they saw it fitting to serve that first and thankfully, it was just a teeny-weeny piece of cake so it did not really make much of a difference…and it was fresh and very soft and moist and all of us thought it was pretty good.
For the sets that we ordered, Melissa and I got the soup of the day – this pumpkin soup and a slice of bread…
…and I must say that the soup was creamy and very nicely done and both of us loved it.
Melissa had the spaghetti bolognese set (RM11.90)…
…while I opted for the meatballs with rice (RM11.90)…
…and both of us enjoyed our choices.
I also ordered this what-they-call the crushed, mashed and smashed potato gratin (RM6.00)…
…which was all right…
…though I wished they had made it smaller, say half of that…and charged RM3-4.00 instead for it as there really was too much for us to finish.
My missus had the drunken chicken with rice set (RM9.90)…
…which came with something with seaweed inside which according to her, tasted like miso soup. The chicken was good but unlike what the name implied, there wasn’t any taste of wine and came across like chicken cooked with soy sauce.
Upon settling the bill, I was given this complimentary set of sixย ang paos…
…which I thought was unique as unlike the others, they were all of different designs and varying shades of pink and orange…
Another point in their favour is that there is none of the plus-plus thing that you may find elsewhere so the prices that you see on the menu would be exactly what you would have to pay at the end of the day.
It certainly was a good lunch and one thing’s for sure, we definitely would be dropping by again to try some of the other stuff that they have on their menu.
The portion was pretty decent it seems. But no, don’t bring me here when I’m there,! I want the best Sarawak laksa ar hehe damn beh paiseh XD
Oh and midin and the cheap sea cucumber soup! Ooh la la
Yup, exactly what I told Huai Bin – no point going for western here. I am pretty sure he can get nicer and more authentic stuff in KL, and you in Penang too.
Hi Arthur! That was lots of carbo! ๐
How’s the coffee?
The coffee’s very good…maybe better than those more familiar branded franchises but we have very nice local ones as well. Just need to know where to go.
It looks really good! I’ve been here before but not to eat – just to drink coffee.
It’s a place my ex (the one from Sibu) hangs out at. You’ll probably see her during tea time. Haha!
The food looks good though and it’s funny, that bit about the waiter not knowing the name of the cake. ๐
Oh? So it’s forbidden territory now, is it? Hehehehehe!!!! I would probably drop by more often if parking isn’t so difficult and traffic isn’t so heavy in that part of town.
HAHAHA
Not really, I would go there, I hung out with her a lot last CNY too, but lost her number when I changed phones (lost a lot of numbers then).
Yeah, I know what you mean, with the influx of people for CNY I guess the car park at Sanyan would be full too
That place is always a pain when it comes to parking unless you go early in the morning…or you park at the far end of the town square. Unfortunately, the word “walk” does not exist in my vocabulary. Hehehehehehe!!!!
Very nice decor. The food was nicely presented too but is the portion small? And I like their angpow packets. Very pretty and pleasing colours and design. A nice change from the usual red ones.
Yup, very pleasing to the yes – not so gaudy. Nope, the portion’s pretty big – we could not finish the mashed potatoes, so full.
That was a nice lunch indeed. All the food looks so great. A good combination of the ang pao packets. Different colours and different designs. Very decent and nice deco too.
Yup, nice place, nicely-priced too. We were there before lunchtime so it was all right – dunno what it is like if there’s a lunch crowd.
i love these modern ang paus in the newer colours instead of regular red and gold.
the last i had Segafredo was in Penang. Don’t recall seeing them in KL…
I love them too – dunno if the older folks would frown on them though… Can’t say I like the colour of those from Guardian though.
Wow…cheap and nice!! From the three dishes, I will opt for your wife’s choice as usual but my girl will definitely go for Melissa’s! Spaghetti is her favourite!
Hah!!! You’re like my missus – not into western. Dunno how much she enjoyed all that we had in NZ…
The drunken chicken set looks super yummy and the price is reasonable.
Very nice angpows set..
Yup, go ahead and give it a try – right in the middle of town.
ooo, there are a couple of segafredos in kl, one in sunway pyramid and another at pavilion mall. i think they kinda go unnoticed amid the all the cafes here, but the food in your pics look nice, especially the very meaty spaghetti. interesting that they also serve eastern fare (the chicken) ๐
I saw a few in their menu, at the back – not many…just a few. Maybe it’s to cater to those not really into western cuisine, like my missus.
meatballs which ones better…these or the ones at IKEA?
Dunno. Never gone to IKEA, nobody bawa bah!!! ๐ฆ
Looks like a decent place. Modern cafe. From photos…the food looks not bad. Ehhh….you too collecting angpao packets ar? I’m collecting for my MIL le… ^_^
I don’t collect buy my sister does.
I love the interior design of this cafe especially how they placed the mug. Gonna copy this for my future house ;).. From the photo, I also guess that is red velvet cake. I am wondering that handsome waiter you’re asking maybe first time working in cafe/bakery shop.
Maybe. Lots of them around – part-timers waiting for SPM or STPM results, so they’re not really properly trained.
The place is unique! I like the wall decorations~
Not to mention the food looks very presentable!
Nice place, very pleasant.
The spaghetti looks like so small portion but the potato omg.. i don’t eat potato if i can help it and that is way too much!!
I like the angpow packets. They look really lovely ๐
Yup, they’re coming out with some very nice ang pao packets these days. I hear Petronas has sets like this too.
oh, spaghetti bolognese with meatballs!! i like that, looks so yummy~~ ๐
Ummmm…you like ’em balls eh? Wink! Wink! Muahahahahaha!!!!! ๐
The way they presented the cake in the small glass is nice. **Aijor…period ka** Kesian, must offer him Panadol (for period pain)..aahahaahah. Jahat
No lah! Period there mean full-stop…end of story, habis cerita, no need to say anymore. LOL!!! ๐
happy new year, arthur! have a good one! ๐
Thanks. You’re in Sibu? Do drop by. PM me on Facebook… ๐
nice angpow packets….the only thing that would attract me when doing shopping and eating out now, hahaha…
Just for the ang paos? Wow!!!!! Many places here offering – eat/buy up to a certain amount and you get free ang paos.
Oh..didn’t know they serve lunch, i thought it is a coffee place? Do they serve coffee?? Food look not bad, but i won’t have western food in Sibu la. ๐
That crushed, mashed and smashed potato gratin, taste just like mashed potatoes? Maybe can try Lucy’s plate of druken chicken with rice, look not bad.
Ah! The ang pow packet look very nice!
Yalor! I’m sure they have better westerns in KL. But it’s not expensive here and quite nice…plus the coffee’s good too.
Frankly, I love the meatballs and the potatoes.
Nice ang pow packets. I just went to the bank at lunch to ask for ang pow packets. Last minute preparation!
Lucky thing they still have. One year I went a bit later, no more! This year, I managed to get a lot! ๐
If i go Sibu, must look for you to show show where got good good nice nice foods, kakaka….
Of course! No problem at all! When are you coming? Welcome! Welcome! ๐
Err.. sorry for saying this but the spag bol looks like an elephant turd resting on straw…Muahahaha. Not trying to be mean or rude ( u know me, what…) but that’s exactly came to my mind when I saw it n burst out laughing n Simon who was sitting beside me also had the same thought… sorry!!!!!( c’mon.. laugh la!!! ๐
I think it was Twilight Man earlier who hinted along this same line… Didn’t think anything of that at the time – just put off by the water around it. Minus a few points there. ๐ฆ
that wall design is just so fabulous
i love it so much
i would love those shelves on my kitchen wall in my future house haha
You’re not the only one. Someone said this same thing earlier. ๐
well what more could i say more? the pictures speak for themselves and
im being too synonymous on my comments so id rather no say the “scrumptious” word
oh crap i just did lol
Ya, not that many words one can use when talking about food… LOL!!!
Those are rather big balls! Hehehe the cake looked very much like red velvet indeed. It’s pretty much just chocolate coloured in red with a slight tartness due to buttermilk and vinegar.
I reckon it was red velvet. It did taste good though, and that was all that mattered. Big balls? Pretty normal, I would think… You prefer them smaller? Hehehehehehe!!!!
wah the ang pow packets are really nice and I do like collecting them too
I use them to decorate the house. ๐
I am getting hungrier by looking at the pictures here.
Keep looking! Muahahahahaha!!!! ๐
