We usually take it slow and easy on Sundays, starting with a simple breakfast at home when we wake up in the morning and at around 10.00 a.m. or so, we would go for the Sunday service at the cathedral in town which usually ends past noon.
That was exactly what we did last Sunday and after the church service, we went to grab a bite to eat. Actually, we were here not too long ago when my friend, Mandy, was in town. I left the ordering to Melissa and she wanted this very nice dish of spare ribs…
…and she also ordered the midin (wild jungle fern) that Mandy has since fallen in love with…
…and the creamy butter prawns that we also had the other day.
In addition to the three, we had this sea cucumber soup…
…which tasted really great even though I could hardly find any sea cucumber inside.
The bill came to RM61.30 altogether, inclusive of rice and drinks for 3 persons, and they waived the 30 sen from the total on their own accord but still, I thought that was a bit too expensive.
In the past, if we did not have any prawns or fresh fish (fish fillet is usually cheaper), the bill would come up to around RM30-40.00 only. Well, we did have prawns that day but they were somewhat small – smaller than my pinky! I wonder if this was because Chinese New Year was just a week away and many people are back in town and business is especially good this time of the year which would explain the escalating prices of virtually everything around here…or is this going to be a permanent feature? Well, if it is the latter, I guess it would be a whole lot better for us to just eat at home as it would definitely be at least a bit, if not a lot, cheaper.
In the afternoon, Melissa would drop by her maternal grandma’s place with her mum and spend some time there. Sometimes, I would cook dinner while at other times, my missus may buy something on the way home. Last Sunday, however, we decided to go out instead and dropped by at this cafe/restaurant round the corner from my house…
I did not really like what I had the first time I was there when they first opened for business. The second time I went, I was put off by those horrendous plastic flowers that they had on the tables but the food was not bad albeit a bit on the high end – the prices, I mean…while the third time I was there, it was to meet some ex-students of mine who were back in town and we just had drinks and some finger foods, that was all.
This time around, I was quite happy that at least they had made an effort to have some decent-looking floral arrangements here and there…
…and even though they were not real flowers, they did not look too bad really…
My daughter was there once with her mum and she enjoyed the spicy egg plant/brinjal spaghetti and initially, she said she would like to have that but once we got there, she had a change of heart and asked for the beef lasagna (RM18.50) instead…
It was pretty good but the portion was kind of huge and she could not manage to finish all of that.
I had the macaroni cheese (RM15.50)…
…which was very nice – very rich and creamy…
…though I could barely feel the teeny-weeny bits of ham, and perhaps mushroom as well, in it.
My missus ordered the sambal fried noodles (RM12.90)…
…which she said was very nice but would prefer it to be a little bit more spicy.
After that pleasantly-delightful dinner, we made our way home and called it a day. So, this is how we usually spend our Sundays. How about you?
