Drivin’ around…

After our simply delightful brunch that morning on our 3rd day with my friend and her family, we went driving around to places outside Auckland that I had never been to before. That day, they took us to the most incredibly beautiful, most breathtaking scenic spots ever.

Scenic tour 1

Our first stop was at Muriwai where at this specific spot, the Maukatia (Maori Bay)…

Scenic tour 2

…we were able to see the gannet colony on a plateau in the midst of the cliffs there…

Scenic tour 3

Everybody else walked to get a closer look at the birds but I did not want to over-exert myself and decided to stick around where I was to take photographs of the flowers and everything else. I loved the toilets…

Scenic tour 4

– they look like some kind of chalets on the outside, don’t you think?

If you visit places like these in New Zealand during the summer, you may be lucky enough to see some exciting sights…

Scenic tour 5

…here, there and everywhere. Unfortunately, I was not lucky enough to see everything…but somebody did. My friend went over too but according to her, they would cover up when a lady walked by whereas if a man happened to come passing, it would be a different story altogether.

There was this sign on the path down to the beach…

Scenic tour 6

…but there were a few surfers having a ball of a time regardless…

Scenic tour 7

…and even Melissa and my friend’s son went all the way down to get into contact with the sea water…

Scenic tour 8

As we were leaving this particular place, I managed to get a shot of the gannets from another angle…

Scenic tour 9

…but I was in the car so the colours did not turn out as nice.

On the way, we had some captivating sights of the Muriwai Beach…

Scenic tour 10

…and the surrounding areas…

Scenic tour 11

We did not stop at the beach itself …

Scenic tour 12

…though as we had a few other places to go to before we called it a day.

After the beaches (Yes, the spelling’s correct!!!! LOL!!!), we headed to the forest – the Woodhill Crown Forest, to be exact, where they have all kinds of activities such as flying fox…

Scenic tour 13

…and canopy walks…

Scenic tour 14

…and lots more or you can even have a picnic there, if you so desire, amidst the amazingly tall trees there.

Scenic tour 15

We were indeed immensely enthralled by all the captivating scenery along the way on the tour that day, so much so that we never even felt the time slipping by and before we knew it, it was time for tea – but that would have to be in the next post, I’m afraid. Do come back to check that out, ok?

  1. CONFIRM..you will like Sabah esp Kuala Penyu and Kudat….minus the cool weather of course.Have you checked the air fares yet????
NZ has so many facilities for so few people…..simply love that.

Hmmmm…you forgot to add: PLUS the sandflies, the mosquitoes, the jellyfish…etc…etc…etc… LOL!!! ๐Ÿ˜€ Waiting for Melissa’s posting – rumour as it that it will be on January 20th so everything on hold right now – can’t make any definite plans.

    1. Lots of steps just to go down to the beach in Kuala Penyu, Arthur. Hehehe

Kpenyu will have to get a special sedan made…the one they used to carry the bride in in ancient China! Muahahahahahaha!!!!

  2. Simply love the beautiful scenery with the blues & greens. Wow, the canopy walks and the trees are all so straight. Indeed beautiful.

Very beautiful, indeed. Loved all those places a lot!

  3. I agree! The view is simply breath taking! So beautiful.
I bet the air there is extra fresh too!

Fresh and cool…not polluted like in KL and even though Sibu air is fresh enough, it is humid and stuffy owing to our climate here and is not so pleasantly comfortable.

  4. exciting sights… tsk tsk…
so do you walk past them and pretend to ask for directions?

Oh? So that’s the trick you have up your sleeve eh? Gatal!!! LOL!!! ๐Ÿ˜€

  5. Breath taking scenery and you get to “wash” your eye too. kekekkeke *wink wink* Aiya, you should have walk in front and check it out. ๐Ÿ˜›

That flying fox and canopy walk look very interesting, i don’t mind to try.

No lah! Yunno me…so very kwai one. See “Love Actually” on NZ tv, uncensored…already blushing… You ask Shereen lah! Hehehehehehehe!!!! Ya, you go ahead. I’m too old for such things…and too fat too.

    1. Yes, Annie. Arthur very Kwai one.. he almost faints and watch the rest of the ‘Love Actually’ movie with hands covering his eyes… but with fingers splayed apart so as not to miss any of the juicy bits.. Lol!

Where got? Actually, I did not really enjoy the movie…so after a while, I just switched it off…and went to bed. So good, this old man. LOL!!!

  6. great shots, definitely postcard-worthy! and yes, i wish i were there already, heheh ๐Ÿ˜€

Any plans? Let me know if you’re going over – I may want to tag along. Wouldn’t mind going again…. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  7. The scenery of the blue sea is spectacular… too bad you didn’t catch what you were looking for.. ๐Ÿ™‚ So fast tea time? Another post of mouth watering cakes, I suppose!

Ummm…not really. Just wait and see! LOL!!!

  8. In NZ, hubby calls these ‘girls’ as The Gatalese ( pronounce it with a mat Salleh accent )! Don’t say that you did not see them topless.. entah- entah you see until jelak already then only let us know about it.. Lol!!! How come you did not use any of the close shots of the gannets? There are plenty to choose from.. Hehehe.

Me? I think if they saw me, they would not just cover up – sure they would run away….the mere sight of this DOM would scare them off. Malas to go and get from the folder – I think most people would be more keen on seeing the photos of beautiful scenery…and food. ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. when i saw the very first photo, the nice view really captivated me and i was hoping that i wouldn’t be seeing any food in this post.. thanks arthur for not spoiling the mood, hahahaha!!

I think the food will come in the next post. Nice break eh? LOL!!! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  10. wow i want to try that canopy walk
i mean it would be fun and thrilling

You should. Young people should be more adventurous…and in these western countries, safety is always given a priority.

  11. Very beautiful scenary, all pictures are like postcards.
Canopy walks look very interesting to me.

Ya, bet you would love that…and the flying fox too. Lovely place, really great destination to visit…

  12. Really beautiful scenery. That type of scenery is better for you. The “exciting” one may not be too good for your heart muahahahaha!!!!!!

Yes, the soothing, relaxing sights are the ones for me, can do without the exciting ones… LOL!!! ๐Ÿ˜€

  13. Breathtaking view. Why no go down walk walk?

    Aisay…no ahem photo …

Kaki sakit… Oh? No hunky guys leh…You also want to see naked pompuan kah? Tsk! Tsk!

  14. Oh my.

    Such lovely images.

How nice to be experiencing and viewing the sight firsthand. ๐Ÿ™‚

Sure beats looking at pictures and watching on tv… Should make a trip there sometime. Certainly would be a good change from the usual Asian destinations.

  15. simply breathtaking… no wonder lots of them hangout outside instead of us hanging in the malls all time… with such scenic views…

I better save up to pay a visit to NZ… and Maori Bay is definately on my list to visit!

I would want to go again…if given a choice between there and any Asian country. It’s so different and so very nice – loved it!!!

  16. wow the scenery there is simply picturesque. And I like the concept of canopy walks, activities on the trees and a picnic.

All the more reason for you to hop over one day, I guess. A great change from our Asian destinations, I’m sure.
