Get me to the church on time…

In Puhoi, one of New Zealand’s two ethnic historic villages, we dropped by this very nice church…

Puhoi 1

the Church of Sts. Peter & Paul, a Catholic church built by the early settlers in 1880…

Puhoi 2

It brings to mind the church that the Ingalls family went to in the popular TV series at one time, the “Little House on the Prairie”…

Puhoi 3

As a matter of fact, this church itself was featured in the Disney production movie: “Bridge of Terabithia“. If anyone is interested, you can click the link to watch – the church may be seen at 00:54:58.

My missus bought this souvenir made from the wood used to build the original church…

Puhoi 4

…so you can say that we literally brought home with us…

Puhoi 5

…a piece of New Zealand history…

Puhoi 6

This is the town library in Puhoi

Puhoi 7

– such a cute little place. I wonder if it qualifies to go into the Guiness Book of World Records or not.

We also dropped by this very interesting place – the Puhoi Pub & Hotel

Puhoi 8

No, we did not go there to drink or to spend the night, only to look around at what they have in there.

Hey, I saw a rather worn-out Malaysian ringgit there…

Puhoi 9

I wonder who had left it there.

There are many bull horns…

Puhoi 10

…and moose or deer antlers on the walls and according to Simon, they used to throw the women’s bras up and leave them dangling from them but unfortunately, there was only one to be seen now…

Puhoi 11

Hey! What have we got here? Look, Yoong! Look! They have a special corner specially for me…

Puhoi 12

Muahahahahahaha!!!!!

Ok, that should be enough excitement for now. We will continue with more from Puhoi in the next post. Make sure you come back, eh?

Meet me in the barn…

After an exhilarating tour of all the scenic places, off we went to Silverdale

We stopped by this very quaint antique shop…

Antique shop 1

…just to look around. I love that blue and white soup tureen…

Antique shop 2

…but of course, I did not buy it. In fact, looking at the prices of everything in New Zealand, I did not even dare to ask how much it cost.

After that brief pit stop along the way, we proceeded to this place

Barn 1

It is a place that sells everything that has anything to do with the garden so one would get to see all kinds of flowers all over that huge place…

Barn 2

I’ve shared the photographs of the flowers in my album on Facebook so I would not be including those here.  Anyway, you can have a glimpse of some here…

Barn 3

…and since it was almost Christmas, they had a lot of poinsettias and everything red…

Barn 4

…and a myriad of colours…

Barn 5

I love what they have here and those garden lovers who are into landscaping and stuff like that would surely enjoy browsing around here…

Barn 6

Don’t you love this cute-looking gnome…

Barn 7

…or this frog…

Barn 8

…for instance? Unfortunately, they’re too heavy and even if I could afford them, there would be no way I could bring all of them home. Besides, I cannot imagine putting them outside in our tropical weather- they probably would get discoloured, green moss and all, very soon.

These look interesting but I do not really know what they are for…

Barn 9

I guess they’re for baking one’s own homemade pizzas – sure beats doing that in an oven, that’s for sure!

Well, we were there for tea at the cafe…

Barn 10

…and Melissa had the macaroni cheese…

Barn 11

…which we all shared while my friend’s son had the lasagna…

Barn 12

Her hubby ordered a scone…

Barn 13

…but it did not look like the ones I am more familiar with and it did not taste all that great either.

So, after our cuppa, the tour continued…and this time to a place called Puhoi…and that would be in the next post, I’m afraid. See you!!!!
