Honey and the bees…

We headed out of town in the 3rd day of our stay in Auckland, New Zealand and stopped by this place at Waimauku for brunch…

Bees Online 1

– just 5 minutes’ drive past Kumeu, according to this website.

Bees Online 2

It was actually a bee farm, if I’m not mistaken…

Bees Online 3

…and there were signs telling you what to do should you happen to have the misfortune of getting stung by one.

The cafe there was very niceΒ and these were their specials for the day…

Bees Online 5

I was attracted by the colours of their peppercorns…

Peppercorns

Here, we have either white or black but they seemed to have red ones as well.

Well, this wasn’t mine…

Branded coffee

I guess by now all of you would know that I would get terribly sleepy should I drink anything with milk during the day.

I think this was my friend’s order…

Breakfast 1

…and her hubby had this…

Breakfast 2

The scrambled eggs were too salty but the members of the staff were very pleasant about it. When informed, they happily took it back and came out with a fresh plate…and it was perfectly done the second time around. I don’t think we would get that same kind of treatment here, I’m sure… Tsk! Tsk!

My missus had this…

Breakfast 4

…and whatever it was, the presentation certainly looked good.

Melissa ordered something with venison sausages…

Breakfast 5

…and it was really very very nice. I think this was the nicest of the lot actually.

My friend’s son and I had the Egg Benedict with smoked salmon added…

Egg Benedict 1

Well, I’ve seen this in blogs and photos of the ones Melissa had before as well but I never got round to trying it here. For one thing, I don’t think we can get it in Sibu so I made it a point to eat it at least once while in New Zealand.

It was very nicely done – the poached egg was perfect…

Egg Benedict 2

– so very nice and runny and I enjoyed that very much. Just look at that look of satisfaction on my face…

Satisfied

LOL!!! Omigawd!!! It wasn’t even 48 hours since we landed in Auckland…and just look at my tummy!!! With that red sweater, people would think that I was Santa Claus after having taken off my costume and wrapping it round my neck, enjoying a little break at this beautiful place and the superbly fine and sunny but cool weather. LOL!!!

  1. Arthur, it’s my first time to see santa off work…I often wonder what they do for a break?! Looking forward to read all your interesting post for year 2013:)

LOL!!! Certainly would not be basking in the sun like this…in the North Pole! LOL!!! πŸ˜€

  2. Hi Arthur, Happy New Year! Sorry I didnt get around to wishing you yesterday as I was a little busy with the family. The eggs benedict looks mighty fine… love the gorgeous orange oozy yolk. πŸ˜‰

Same to you. No worries at all… Ya, the poached egg was perfectly done, very nice.

  3. lol… I will say… it was truly my first thought that you Do look like Santa (before I read yr words… I swear)….

what a gorgeous deep orange hue from your poached egg… it must taste rich and creamy… everything looks really fresh and wholesome from this place…

Happy New Year to You & Yr Family! πŸ™‚

Thanks, and the same to you and yours. LOL!!! Minus the white beard…otherwise, I would make a perfect Santa! Yes, they’re very strict about food there…and everything is so clean.

  4. Blessed new year Arthur! BTW, are you using a new camera? Pics look awesome!

Same to you, and no, it’s the same old camera. I guess it’s true when the say the sun is brighter, the sky is bluer and the grass is greener on the other side… Something to do with the weather, I think…but in Wellington, the sun was a bit too strong so if taking a photo in direct sunlight, the subject would look so white and ghostly. Seemed ok in Auckland though…

  5. wahhhh…. looks like a BIG TOWKAY la.. and the FOOD! Gosh… makes my stomach now yearning for nice breakfast!! Never open this blog at 8am in the morning… πŸ™‚

Hahahahahaha!!! Older and wiser each passing day! Can’t get those stuff here, unfortunately…dunno Ipoh! Shereen gave me a whole lot of the raw ingredients home but somehow cooking one’s own and eating the same in our weather – not quite like it, not so nice…have to go there and eat there. 😦

  6. New Zealand is a nice country!!!

It is. Expensive, a lot more expensive than Singapore…but nice. πŸ™‚

  7. Wow, all looks so great and I specially love the poached egg. I never seem to get it right….haiz!!.. Agree with Claire, you do have the look and style of towkay. Where is towkay neo?, hehehehe.

Me too… Tried but not successful – the white went floating all over the water. 😦 Towkay looks only, pocket kosing… Sobssss!!!! 😦

  8. All the dishes looked very good! And the egg benedict with runny egg yolk is something that I would love πŸ™‚ Yeah, you sure look contented!

It was a great trip…and I had a wonderful time – great company, great food…who could ask for more? πŸ™‚

  9. Hi Santa,

So what should we do should we got sting by the bees?

You are like a baby, getting sleepy after a drink of milk πŸ˜›

    Happy New Year Santa!!

Same to you. Well, according to the notice, you should approach a member of the staff! LOL!!! πŸ˜€

  10. All the food looks very presentable!

Don’t worry about the tummy la! Go travel must enjoy to the fullest! Come back here then only diet lor! ^^

Yup!!! I’m trying to go down a bit now that Christmas and New Year have gone by…but Chinese New Year is coming! Oh dear! 😦

  11. Happy New Year Arthur Wee! Keep on blogging! :p

Wow, that coffee (is that coffee?) looks nice!

Thanks, and the same to you. Yup…that was a mocha or something along those lines.

    1. That was cappuccino actually πŸ™‚

Oh? Not one of Melissa’s mochaccino? She seemed to drink taht a lot there…

  12. wow I have to call you Datuk Seri (looking at the last picture)…
    Rich man enjoy good life…
looks like the weather is so nice .. sunny and cooling?

You’re right about the good life part but not very correct with the rich guy bit. Yes, the weather was absolutely perfect…especially for me! πŸ™‚

  13. honey and the bees = kampua and the arthur~~ πŸ˜€

wow, i just love those food!! look so yummy, especially with that kind of presentation, sure makes people drool more!! now i don’t mind you post more photos like this, hehe~~

You’re suffering from withdrawal symptoms? I’m afraid you will not get to see kampua for a long long time… We’re not even halfway through my NZ posts, believe you me! You like? Hang around then – there will be lots and lots to come. πŸ™‚

  14. wow, finally a sweet photo of yours to share with us here, how rare!! errr, your tummy?? i thot it is always this size?? :p

No, it had grown smaller…and I thought I was shrinking due to old age…but unfortunately, no. After coming back from NZ, it was HUGE!!!!! Will have to control a bit now and bring it down again… 😦

  15. Well, Santa’s job is finished after the Christmas Season so there is no problem that he bask under the sun. πŸ˜‰

You really look satisfied. You ate good food with your family at a restaurant with pleasant staff.

Ya…with my family and my wonderful friends in Auckland. Without them, I would not have had the chance to experience (and eat) so much! Would probably be loitering around the CBD all day every day until I left.

  16. hmmm…i thought you’re going to show us some bees or honey

All foods look very good, my type of food. yum yum. What is the black thing underneath that Melissa order? Bread?

Ah, finally a picture of you on the NZ trip! hahahha. You’re like saying, after the food and with the nice weather, i just want to sleep….

No, I did not drink the coffee with milk…so I was ok. Hehehehehe!!!! I think that was mushroom, not too sure.

  17. I love, love eggs benedict! Mmmm…… Everything in the pics look so yummy.

Everything was yummy…plus the wonderful weather, everything seemed to taste so much better! πŸ™‚

  18. i just wonder how are you able to find food like this
i mean you’r posting the most scrumptious foods

All credit should go to Shereen. She even went through the trouble of going to some of these places to try first…and only those that got her stamp of approval, she would take me to go and eat! Amazing, that woman – so nice. πŸ™‚

  19. i love every dish i mean if that can fit my stomach ill eat it all haha

    anyways i love bees

You do? I wonder why? My daughter loves the cute soft toys but I don;t think she will like the real thing.

  20. You get your orders wrong. Mine was the French toast while Lucy’s was the mussel fritters. We had a very nice breakfast that day with lots of laughter and the weather was perfecto πŸ˜‰ Anyway, bila you sempat posing like tycoon tu?

You didn’t know? Simon snapped that so very nice photo of me – so sweet of him to make sure there is one nice photo of me, at least. Hehehehehehe!!!! Oh? Those were mussel fritters? And french toasts? Can’t remember anymore, old brain…and can’t make out from the photos either.

  21. You look contented which is how it should be. When you are away visiting with loved ones, you don’t want to be rushed.

Adding bees to our property is on my ‘to do’ list for this year. There’s a local beekeeper not too far from where I live, and I’m most fortunate that his wife is friends with my neighbors wife’s mother. My daughter and I’ll be stopping to visit their bees soon. πŸ™‚

Yes, that’s one thing about joining conducted tours – very rushed and you spend half the time waiting for some very difficult people. But I feel it would be nicer than going on one’s own to a place where one does not know anybody and has to go about everything and everywhere alone – so stressful, wouldn’t be able to enjoy. Thank goodness we had Shereen & her family there and had a really great time! πŸ™‚

  22. I love that photo of you buddy! πŸ™‚

Hey, nice breakfast creations! It certainly makes me miss breakfast down under, they make the best breakfasts, IMHO!

Thanks, my friend, you’re very kind. LOL!!! πŸ˜€
Ya….after feasting on those, I don’t think I would want to go western at any place here – at least, not for a while…
