Almost new…

I am pretty sure some of you are equally guilty of this – buying something and using it a couple of times and then stash it somewhere out of sight and out of mind. Like for instance, there was a time when everyone was going crazy over that special pan and singing its praises to the skies. My missus also had one though I do not know where exactly it is now – somewhere in the house, of course, but I don’t know where. Come to think of it, I haven’t heard anyone mentioning it for a while now – nobody seems to be cooking anything with it anymore.

Well, this is another of one of those things…

Sandwich toaster

…that my missus bought a long long time or maybe she did not exactly buy it – perhaps, it was one of those things that she managed to exchange for the coupons that she had accumulated from that direct sales company.

For the uninitiated, that’s a sandwich toaster. We did use it a number of times but when it comes to toast sandwiches, I think I would prefer toasting the slices of bread with our good ol’ 33-year-old toaster and making them manually. In other words, I was not all that fond of what came out of this toaster plus if I remember correctly, there was a limit as to what I could stack inside the sandwich. Other than that, there would be all that cleaning and putting away after use. Tsk! Tsk!

Anyway, my daughter wanted to make some waffles that day so we took it out as it can also be used for this particular purpose – they have the moulds for waffles included. She just prepared the batter…

Pancake batter

…that she would usually use for making pancakes and once that was done, she was ready to roll.

Now, don’t they look absolutely gorgeous?

Waffles 1

Thankfully, that thing still works fine after all this time. Melissa certainly was delighted that they turned out great

Waffles 2

She added some chocolate chips to them for added flavour and of course, I was delighted too as I got to enjoy eating them…

Waffles 3

The texture was absolutely perfect and ooooo…that rich buttery taste and fragrance, Golden Churn no less! Yum! Yum! Hehehehehehehe!!!!

Well, I do think that if you have these appliances and you keep them nicely and properly, you can always take them out for use when you need them…and they would still be as good as new.

Later, for lunch, Melissa cooked the organic wholemeal spirals that a cousin of mine sent me from Australia with Basilo pasta sauce, minced beef, thinly sliced mushrooms and a bit of spices…

Melissa' pasta 1

There was no parsley in the house and all our herbs in the garden have died – the basil, the mint…and the rosemary and dill never did grow so I just added a bit of chopped spring onion on top for added colour. Come to think of it, we can’t get parsley here – not at the market nor the supermarts in town. I guess the restaurants get their ready supply via special order – they always seem to have it and use it to garnish their dishes, more for decoration than anything else.

All I did was to toss everything together, sprinkle a bit of Parmesan on top and dive in…

Melissa's pasta 2

Oooo…that was good and of course, when it was cooked by one so dearly loved, it sure did taste a whole lot better! Wink! Wink!

  1. My mom is the pro when it comes to this, she literally buys everything in the electrical appliance store and just leave them in the house LOL her recently bought “standing iron” was left at a corner after using for…. like once or twice?

Oh? The one that you can use to iron clothes hanging from a hanger? I think my missus has one too, not sure but I did hear her saying that it doesn’t work or something, can’t remember exactly.

  2. I like all those gadgets but as you say, it’s the cleaning up afterwards that puts me off using them. Thanks for everything, Arthur, I owe you one.

Yup, and I’m so old school – somehow, I find things are nicer the old fashioned way. πŸ˜‰ Oh…my pleasure, thanks for the luncheon meat – coming up in a post…soon. πŸ˜‰

  3. So u could start your good business on waffle …
Fatman waffle …. I will be your first customer…

My daughter made those, not me. I guess if she decides to quit teaching, this is one thing she can go into.

  4. Oh my, the waffle & spirals looks just awesome. I would have thought they are bought from outside. Daddy’s girl has got the passion & talent indeed. Two thumbs up & a big big pat for Melissa. Fuiyoh!!!!

Yes, and she loves and enjoys doing it…whenever she can find the time, that is!

  5. The waffles looks great! And the gadget too. hehe.

The waffles were great. I wonder what the more current sandwich and waffle maker looks like. πŸ˜‰

  6. Of course is tasty when it was cooked by someone lovely but can see it truly looks good!!! =]

True, true. With that special ingredient – love! Can’t get that anywhere else.

  7. ooo, if you hadn’t explained what that gadget was, i wouldn’t have known what it is! πŸ™‚ and yes, the waffles look sooooo appetising, i wanna sink my teeth into them! πŸ˜€

Ya, it does look like some kind of UFO, does it not? πŸ˜€ Ya, the waffles were great. Nice with ice cream too.

  8. waffles with vanilla icecream tastes good! AnW serves good ones… although i think maybe its the ambience and nostalgic effect. Pasta looks good!

Our Sugar Bun has it but yet to try – the outlet I went to sometime ago, not serving that… 😦

  9. Guilty as charged! I have a few gadgets collecting dust in the kitchen, in the cupboard and God knows where else. So I have put a stop to buying new stuff. It is nice to be a able to make waffles at home though, so that sandwich toaster came in handy. Melisa’s pasta is making me hungry πŸ™‚

Come, come, cook your own. Bet yours would be absolutely awesome. πŸ˜‰ Ya, at least the sandwich toaster has come in handy…finally! πŸ˜€

  10. I am one of those aunties too… Buy for the shiok of buying and that is it esp. now I don’t do much cooking anymore..
What a blessed papa.. Your future son-in-law is another blessed one too. πŸ™‚

Yes, whoever the lucky guy will be – papa-in-law sure will pamper too one. πŸ˜‰ Must be a woman thing – buying and not using… 😦 I will consider prices and how much use I would make of something…and usually, I will end up not buying.

  11. Tomorrow school reopen liao, so next round of Melissa cooking will be the next school holiday?

It depends. She comes home weekends, who knows she may be in the mood sometimes? Will be having a long weekend for Good Friday right through till Easter Monday. Looking forward to that.

  12. I know which direct sales are those gadgets from! πŸ˜‰

I just bought a toaster today.

Melissa is a good cook. Like the dad I bet.

I bet you do. You bought a toaster toaster…or a sandwich maker like this one…or an oven toaster? I don’t mind an oven toaster, don’t have one – would come in handy.

    1. I received a toaster oven from someone last month. A second hand and I havent used it.

bought a real toastee from Giant yesterday. Been toasting half loaf away. Lol.

I prefer bread fresh but if overnight, I would toast it.

  13. Hehehe i know how that feels. I just bought a waffle maker two weeks ago from an online store because the hubby loves waffle. I still havent touched it. till now. Lol. i think it’s easy to do right? *i hope so*

Looked easy when my girl did it. She just used pancake batter for the waffles.

  14. made spiral pasta for lunch yesterday…with lapcheong and leek – fusion πŸ˜€

I would love that and I do it sometimes like in my char kway teow version but not my girl – she would insist on pasta being cooked and tasting like pasta. 😦

  15. Guilty! haha! It goes for clothes too, I’m afraid. Oops!

    The last picture looks delicious!

Yes, you’re telling me! Clothes too, that goes without saying!

  16. Everything looks delicious. So nice that Melissa lovingly prepared meals for her parents too. I know you and your missus must be proud.

This past Saturday I prepared blueberry pancakes for my daughter. When she awoke I told her and her entire face lit up into a big smile. It doesn’t take much too please her. Yesterday, she helped me prepare banana chips and apple chips in our food dehydrator. She loved doing that too, spending time together, chatting and just being around those we love makes the day a bit brighter. Simple things mean so much to the both of us.

Yes, and it makes us so happy when our girls like what we’ve done for them, don’t we? πŸ˜‰ Nothing beats those together-times. Melissa’s a good girl, praise the Lord…my pride and joy, true and true.

  17. Oh yes! The Waffle makers! πŸ™‚ I blogged about my adventure last year. Might have to try them again soon! I still have some vegan batter I can whisk up!

Good luck. Our first time using that to make waffles – my missus never did try.

  18. Hahah..I wanted to get a waffle maker too but duno how many times will I use ehh..

Can use to make sandwiches too…but can’t stuff a lot of filling inside.

  19. oh yeah, i have been eyeing waffle maker πŸ™‚ regarding the herbs, i guess the people who manage Payung do have some to offer! just saying though. totally agree with you regarding the herbs thingy in sibu.

They use all kinds of stuff there but all local herbs, I think. They plant their own.
