We were here around noon sometime last month but most of the stalls were not open and there was only a sprinkling of customers around at the time.
Well, we decided to go there again last Sunday evening to try the or chian, the oyster omelette…

…or should I call it the oyster pancake, that seems to be a star attraction here.
Yes, the stall…

…manned by a few young boys, was open so I ordered their largest serving (RM20.00)…

…which came after a while even though there were many customers ordering that.
Yes, it tasted great and it was very crispy but I could hardly detect the presence of any oysters in it. My girl said that those black bits were most likely some chopped shitake mushroom. Ah well! I guess as they say, beggars can’t be choosers and as far as I know, this is the only one in town so like it or not, that is all that we have – unless you go over to Kuching.
I also ordered the Chinese fried carrot/radish cake or the chai thow koi or koey kah…

…from this stall…

…there. According to a vlogger on Facebook, it’s the famous carrot cake from Bandar Sri Aman, now renamed Simanggang again, like before.
I asked for the largest serving (RM12.00)…

…for the three of us but we did not manage to finish it because it was not all that great. It looked good, tasted nice enough but the chai thow koi was simply not firm enough. At least, it wasn’t soft and soggy like the one I had here before but still, we thought it was rather disappointing. The one we had the other day did not look as nice but it would definitely win hands down.
The kampua mee stall was closed for the day the last time we were here. Obviously, it opens again at night to cater for the nocturnal crowd. Of course, I asked for a bowl (RM4.50)…

…to see if it was any good.
Well, it was as plain as it looked. I did not see any fried shallots nor chopped spring onions in it and even though the noodles were cooked well enough, not hard or over-firm and not over-cooked till soft and soggy, on the whole, it was rather dry, obviously in dire need of a bit more shallot oil/lard.
It tasted a bit o.k. after I had added the chili sauce that came with it…

…and yes, the complimentary soup was very good which was more than what I could say about a lot of the rest all over town.
On the whole, I would not say there was anything here that would get me running back for more but obviously, the crowd there that night would disagree with me on this.
