Stop along the way…

We were here once only earlier this year in May when it first opened for my missus’ birthday & Mother’s Day. Dinner was great and everything was fine except for the massive traffic jam between 5 till 7 something along that road. We were stuck in it for so long, crawling at a snail’s pace, that I swore we would never go back there again, not around that time, that is.

Well, we made our way to the other side of town that morning to check out the bakery at a leading supermarket there. They were having a lot of stuff for Christmas and Chinese New Year, cakes and cookies, so we wanted to go and have a look. Otherwise, we would seldom want to venture to that part of the woods which we consider very far by our Sibu standard.

On the way back, we were passing by where this restaurant was and my girl suggested stopping there for lunch. Of course, I had no objection to that since we liked it that first time we were here and there was no traffic jam at that time of day.

The Christmas decorations…

…were up…

…all ready for the festive occasion.

They were having this lunchtime promotion…

…daily on weekdays except public holidays. You pay for the mains (meat) and the drinks while the sides are optional and rice or spaghetti is complimentary. I noticed that the prices were very much lower than what they would charge on their regular menu and since it was such a good deal, we decided to give it a try.

I had their deep fried pork belly (RM12.00) with the aglio olio spaghetti and the mashed potatoes (RM4.00) plus a glass of iced lemon tea (RM3.00)…

Everything was pretty good except the pork belly which I felt was a bit hard and also too salty.

My girl had the bacon steak (RM19.00) with the spaghetti as well and she asked for the mushroom soup (RM3.00)…

The bacon steak was very nice but it tasted like processed meat – sausage, ham or bacon, that is…and I was supposed to avoid those things in my diet so I just had a bit to sample. The soup, on the other hand, was rather disappointing. It was too watered down/diluted, so much so that we felt we could usually get something nicer on the house at that franchise pizza place.

My missus had the babi bakar (RM14.00) with rice and baby kailan (RM4.00)…

…and in my opinion, of the three, the meat was the best. It was very nicely done, very well smoked indeed.

My girl also ordered this plate of pork nachos with cheese (RM25.00)…

…and it turned out to be really nice too with the minced meat and sauce (something like beef bolognese) and all that cheese. All of us enjoyed that!

Service was great – very cordial, efficient and prompt and our orders were served in no time at all. My girl insisted on picking up the tab that day and the overall total came up to only RM90.00 – cheaper than the Chinese dinner we had here. Given a choice, it certainly is quite obvious where we would rather go.
