Waiting for the big one…

My cousin and her son drove into town, all the way from Mukah, on Friday afternoon. The daughter-in-law could not come with them as she had something on in the school on Saturday morning and had to make her own way here that afternoon.

The mum got in touch with me when they arrived and of course, we arranged to meet for dinner that very night. I suggested going for our Foochow fried noodles and of course, she was all in favour of the suggestion and needless to say, I just had to take them here for it…

We ordered for 5 because at the time, we thought there would be 6 of us but it did not matter, anyway, as we had no problem at all licking the plate clean.

In keeping to all things Sibu or Foochow, I also ordered the tauhu tear, the Foochow tofu soup with canned oysters…

… and for our vegetable dish, we had the midin (wild jungle fern)…

I also asked for their lemon chicken…

…my daughter’s favourite dish here even though it is not quintessentially a Sibu or a Foochow dish. When I shared the above photograph on Facebook, an ex-student commented that it was the best lemon chicken in town and of course, we couldn’t agree more. We sat and chatted while we ate but they wanted to make their way to the pasar malam (night market) so we did not stay there till late.

The next day, Saturday, we did not want to have a heavy lunch as we would like to save our tummy space for our dinner that night. That was why we went back to the coffee shop round the corner from my house that we went to the day before.

I had their chicken rice with a special request for their steamed chicken drumstick (RM5.50)…

…inclusive of rice…

The chicken was quite good but was not as nice as the one here. As for the rice, it was rather disappointing as I found it a bit on the hard side and dry. I was glad that I also ordered a plate of their taugeh (bean sprouts), RM4.00…

…to share as they certainly were not very generous with their cucumber.

Both my girl and the mum had their sambal fried mee (RM6.50)…

…and yes, they did enjoy it.

After our lunch, we headed home and we only ventured out again that evening when it was time for us to go for the dinner.
