Eric, the enterprising young man behind the original, first ever instant Sibu kampua mee, shared some photographs on Facebook of some very nice ceramic crockery with the rooster motifs. Curious, I asked him if those would be given away as free gifts when customers buy his instant kampua mee and he said yes.
Needless to say, I was delighted when he dropped by my house to give me a set – a bowl…

…and a plate…

I have not tried using them yet but the plate looked rather small.
My missus was impressed by the bowl…

So very thick, good quality ceramic, she said…and she loved the design and the colours. I suppose it would be the right size for a packet of the instant kampua mee, cooked.
This rooster crockery is easily available at the shops along with the blue and white fish ones but I think the roosters aren’t exactly the same…

I love the caption: “Inspired by Chinese culture, made by hearts and hands” and I sure did not know this before…

…that according to CultureGuru, people believed that when they eat from a rooster bowl, they are wishing for prosperity in the family. Hence, the rooster motif signifies the meaning of hard work, a fighting spirit and a flourishing family. Interesting!
Thank you so so much, Eric, for the set…

It certainly is so sweet and thoughtful of you to remember this old man. All the best in your venture, keep up the good work.
