Not the best…

My sister was telling me how much she enjoyed the kway teow th’ng (flat rice noodles soup) here so of course, I could not wait to drop by and give it a try. After our somewhat heavy lunch that day, I thought it would be nice to have that for a very light dinner that evening.

I had what they call the wanton noodle soup (kiew teow), RM7.20…

…that came with a few wantons…

…that I enjoyed a lot and some meatballs…

…too, plus a few leaves of bok choy, one green vegetable that I, for no particular reason, am not a fan of so I just left it there in the bowl uneaten.

So what did I think of it? The clear soup was all right, not as nice as the one that I like a lot here and I was wishing they would not be so generous with the msg. I had that lingering umami taste in my mouth the whole night through! As a matter of fact, I have had pian sip (meat dumplings/wanton) soup here, there and everywhere that was very nice too and did not have that same after-eating effect.

As I have said earlier, I loved the wantons. Perhaps I should have ordered what my missus had – their wanton soup (RM5.80) since the meatballs did not tickle my fancy unlike those in the aforementioned soup that I liked a lot.

One thing that I loved a great deal at that other place was the dip that they gave with the soup. I never asked what was in it but my guess was some black vinegar, maybe a bit of light soy sauce and some chili flakes. When I took my cousin (from Bintulu) there that day, she mentioned specifically that the dip went so well with everything in the bowl, bringing the taste to a whole new level. Here, they did not give any sauce at all and I did not bother to ask either.

My girl had their century egg meat congee (RM7.50)…

…but because of the excessive amount of sesame oil, she did not really like it that much. It was pretty obvious that she would not want to order that again.

I cannot remember the last time I was here…

…but it was quite sometime ago. I can’t remember who it was but he told me that they had taken off a few items from their menu. I was glad to see that the chicken soup mee sua

…was still in the list and so was their kway chap

…that I do enjoy a lot. The nasi lemak

…was still there too and so were a lot of things that have been in their menu all this while.

The thing is I am not that keen on going back there again because of the sinking land problem all around the building. It was quite difficult for me, in my condition, to climb up – in fact, that was what I did at another place here that caused me to lose my balance and crash to the ground. Luckily, I escaped with no serious injury other than some bruises and a few aches and pains. I may not be that lucky next time and I sure would not want to take the risk. I certainly hope they will get the authorities to do something about the problem soonest.
