We were here in January, 2021 and the all-in yong tofu special…

…was RM9.50 a bowl at the time, up by 50 sen from RM9.00 before that. Now it is RM11.00 a bowl but let’s count our blessings! At least, we can still get to enjoy it, along with the very nice roast meat and chicken rice from the stall at this coffee shop – the chu char (cook & fry) section that seemed mighty popular before especially for the chap fan (mixed rice) come lunchtime every day has called it quits and there is a new guy, a very young man, running the kampua mee stall in front.
Well, for one thing, we do not have much of a choice here – as far as I know, this is the only place in town where we can get to enjoy this so take it or leave it. I have a soft spot for clear soups so of course, I enjoy this a lot and despite the high price tag, I do not mind dropping by for it once in a long while and if it is any consolation, there are a few cheaper combinations that one can choose from. I think the cheapest would be one where you will get just the fish balls and the tang hoon (glass noodles).
For this all-in super special…

…you get a few fish balls, one tofu stuffed with fish paste cut into two, ladies fingers stuffed with the same and cut into shorter lengths as well, one stuffed green chili, one stuffed slice of bitter gourd and one stuffed piece of brinjal. Personally, I am not into the chili nor the bitter gourd and I wouldn’t say that I’m crazy about the brinjal so the next time around, I think I shall go for the cheaper combinations or ask for more of those that I enjoy more.
I remember there used to be some seaweed in the soup but not anymore. Yes, the Chinese cabbage is still there and I am fine with that and yes, there is the tang hoon (glass noodles)…

…as well but what never fails to steal the show would be the special sambal…

…with a hint of belacan (dried prawn paste). Everything tasted so nice when dipped in it!
Yes, it is still as good – I enjoyed it to the max that morning and you can be sure that I shall be back here for more – for one of the cheaper options, of course – never mind that as far as the price is concerned, the only way is UP!
The yong tofu stall…

…is located at SING LONG CAFE (2.292595, 111.835979) in the Fortune Commercial area (behind Rejang Medical Centre), Lorong Chew Siik Hiong, directly opposite the nursing college (KOLEJ ITA).
