Good ’til the last drop…

It was still early, around 8.00 a.m. when I managed to get my car washed so it was time to go and look for something I could enjoy for breakfast. I was thinking of having another bowl of mee sua in our traditional Foochow red wine and ginger chicken soup but I wanted to try some place else, one that I had not tried before to see if it was any good.

I ended up here where parking is free (the area probably has not been gazetted yet) and there are always ample spaces available. Usually, I am not into anything spicy this early in the morning but when I went near the mee sua stall, before I could place my order, I could detect the overwhelming fragrance of the Sarawak laksa

…also from that same stall…

If I am not wrong, that was the same one where I had the fish ball soup

…not too long ago. I changed my mind instantly about the mee sua and ordered a bowl of the Sarawak laksa (RM8.00)…

…right away.

I tried the broth – it was so very nice, as nice as my favourite here or perhaps a little bit nicer even plus this one here had a nicer colour and did not look as pale. You can take my word for it – it was good till the last drop…

…believe you me!!!

They were not very generous with the prawns – both places gave two miserable prawns in each bowl…

…but you can get more (around 5) if you order the RM9.00 bowl at the other place.

This one did not have any tofu puffs, just like the authentic ones in Kuching, but they were more generous with the shredded chicken and strips of omelette and yes, there were lots of the daun sup (Chinese celery) – you do not get to see any at all in the other one. I did not really like the belacan (dried prawn paste) used though but at least I did not have to beg and beg before I was given any!

All things considered, I would say that at this point in time, this is my new Numero Uno as far as our Sarawak laksa

…in Sibu is concerned.

  1. The picture of the empty bowl speaks for itself. Long at last you found a good bowl of Sarawak laksa at this place. Yes, that is exactly all the ingredients in what Sarawak laksa should have and not adding all the unnecessary but still the broth is the most important thing.

Yes, they do it very well here, very authentic.

  2. Must be good till the last drop!!! Here many selling Sarawak laksa but not all is nice. Need to know which one is good, which one is not.

Yes, it is the same with everything everywhere…like kampua mee in Sibu. One can find a stall in virtually every coffee shop in town but not all are nice. One would need to know where to go for the ones that one likes…and what one likes may not be the favourite of another. That is why when we ask which one is the best, we get all kinds of answers! Like I always say, to each his own!

  3. Sounds like me. When I smelled something nice, I will instantly changed my mind. Definitely good till the last drop! Lol! If I am staying in Sibu, I will definitely make my way to this stall to try the Sarawak Laksa.

You’ll love it, I’m sure. I’ve asked around and it seems that this one is the favourite of many in town. Dunno why nobody has told me before. I wouldn’t have known about it if I did not stumble upon it that day.

  4. Ohhh you missed one more spoonful of it, I am definitely like that, if its so good then the bowl will be always clean. 🤣

And that was less than NZD3.00 a bowl, believe it or not!!! NZD17.90 a bowl in Auckland, my brother there said. 😀

  5. That fishball soup looks absolutely enticing.

I did not really like the fish balls, a bit over done so too QQ/rubbery. There are others a lot better elsewhere.

  6. Parking expenses are so high over here. Sometimes it’s cheaper to catch a Grab than pay for parking.

Yes, so I’ve noticed ever since a long time ago! RM10 to park for a while!!! *faints*
