On Sunday, my girl had something on in church so we went for the morning service instead of our usual one at sunset on Saturday evening. After she was through, we decided to go some place for brunch so we would not have to worry about lunch later.
I expected all the coffee shops to be packed to the brim with customers falling onto the road as is always the case here on Sunday mornings so I took them to my regular haunt which is usually not too busy on weekdays but when we got there, we saw that there were a lot of people there too. Perhaps business is beginning to pick up here so things do not look as gloomy as that time right after the pandemic. Thankfully, there were a few vacant tables so we grabbed one on the pavement outside and quickly went to place our orders.
This was their second time the ladies came here – I did bring them here once when I wanted my girl to enjoy the Seremban guy’s wat tan hor or Cantonese yin yong way back in November, 2020.
I ordered the clear fish soup that I love a lot, with kway teow (flat rice noodles) added (RM6.50)…

…but the ladies did not feel like having anything soupy. They went and took the tiffin carrier from the boot of my car though so they could order two bowls to take home for dinner that evening.
My girl wanted to try the pek koi/fried rice cake (RM6.00)…

…from the stall where I bought the fried udon to take home for my missus to eat. She said it was good but it had its own taste and was not anything like what she liked a lot at Ah Kau’s before.
The mum had the sin chao bihun (RM6.00)…

…which looked like what they call Singapore bihun to me which is actually fried bihun with curry powder added. I think I had that a long time ago but I cannot remember where or when – it was that forgettable.
I noticed there was a new stall beside the kampua mee stall and the items in the photographs at the stall looked pretty nice. I ordered one of the two that were available, the ayam penyet (RM7.00)…

…and I must say that I was quite disappointed when I opened the pack when I got home. Where was the sambal? Where were the raw/blanched vegetables that I was supposed to enjoy with the sambal? It turned out to be nothing more than just roasted chicken rice…breast, minus the skin!
Thankfully, it tasted all right but no, I would not say it was anything to get me rushing back there for more. I certainly would ask him what happened to the ayam penyet the next time I drop by here.
