In the corner…

When I was here

…for the mee sua the other day, I noticed that the boy at the kampua mee stall in front had gone missing. I asked the mee sua lady but she said she did not know what had happened to him as he did not tell anyone anything, whether he had called it quits or whether he had moved some place else.

I did notice that day, however, that there were two new tenants at the two stalls…

…but I did not go over to have a look to see what they were selling.

I finally got down to doing so that day and much to my surprise, they were both selling the same things, kampua mee and pian sip mainly but the second one did have other options as well. I must say that this is rather strange as they should not rent the stalls to different people selling the same things – I would be very surprised that they do not fight tooth and claw day in and day out.

In the end, I just ordered the kampua mee kosong

…with the meatball soup…

…from the old couple at the stall in front.

The combination was only RM4.50 a set, quite inexpensive especially considering that these days, you see the prices of virtually everything shooting through the roof!!!

I rather enjoyed both the noodles and the soup – they were somewhat mild, not overpowering with an overdose of msg and shallot oil (lard) like at a lot of places – some people may not feel this same way but it was just right for me. I loved the soup with its pleasant bone stock taste and a hint of the green vegetables in it. I certainly enjoyed it a lot more than what I had here just the other day.

No, I would not say that it blew me off my feet nor would I say I would be rushing back for more but I certainly would say that should I happen to be in the vicinity and I feel like having kampua mee, I may just drop by here again for this…or perhaps the next time, I shall try the one at the stall next to it.
