I mentioned in my previous post that I am currently looking for new places to go for lunch or dinner to replace the one that called it quits on June the 1st that day.
Well, the food at this place is very cheap and nice but it is not likely that we would be dropping by here all that often as parking can be such a pain. I have no intention of parking my car a mile away and walking all the way here nor am I all that keen on parking at the multi-storey car park right across the road and climbing up and down the stairs.
The other day, however, by some stroke of good luck, as we were driving past, I spotted a vacant parking space right in front of the outlet of that Colonel Sanders’ franchise in the middle of the block so of course, I grabbed it right away and in no time at all, we were at the coffee shop placing our orders for our food.
It was 11 something, almost lunch time and although there was quite a crowd, surprisingly, there was no problem getting a table. Probably many have gone back to the longhouses for the Gawai or some place out of town on a holiday. We were informed that they had run out of midin (wild jungle fern) and cangkok manis so we asked for their kangkong (water spinach) fried with belacan (dried prawn paste)…
…instead. It was very nice just that I found the sauce a little bit too salty but it went great with the rice.
By the way, much to our surprise, we were given a plate of chicken rice each and the best part was it was pretty nice, very much nicer than what we can get at some chicken rice shops and stalls here.
We loved the sio bak/siewyoke (roast pork)…
…that we ordered and the ang sio tauhu (braised tofu)…
…was good too.
I forgot to snap a photograph of the salted vegetable tofu soup before we each took a share of it…
…but that was nice as well, as good as what we would usually order here.
The best part was when I asked for the bill. The total came up to only RM40.50 for the four dishes (inclusive of the chicken rice) for the three of us. It was so cheap and so nice that I sure would not have any second thought about coming here to eat again…provided I can find a parking space not too far away, of course!

Wow, indeed cheap, nice and satisfying lunch. I would be surprised too if I am served with chicken rice instead of plain white rice to go with the dishes. The roast pork looks good too as it is quite lean and to my liking. Hope that lady luck is with you everytime you dropped by there…😊😊
On normal days, one would need Lady Luck to smile upon him or her to be able to find a parking space anywhere in the town centre here. All the spaces are taken, cars are double-parked or parked illegally along yellow lines. We were very lucky that day, probably because many have gone back to the longhouses for the Gawai or on a holiday.
Any particular reason for the aversion to parking a bit further and walking? Due to limited mobility/muscular skeletal? Weather, temp? Safety issues eg snatch theft? Would have thought some walking, movement might help with the managing of the blood sugar level since you’re on a mission to work on this?
I did drop hints all over the place – maybe you did not bother to take note. I shall just say that at 70, I am facing some very serious health issues. No need for anybody to know anything more than that. Watch out for the obituary. Period.
Oh! They served chicken rice instead of plain white rice. I like that! RM40.50 for four dishes is a steal. Over at my end, that is a dream. LOL!
Even here. At most chu char places, you can expect to be charged over RM50 or 60, at least!
Price is reasonable considering the price hike, inflation. I don’t mind chicken rice. Taste nicer.
Yes, it was nicer. We were surprised as this place wasn’t a chicken rice stall. So good of them to go that extra mile for their customers.
I like all the 4 dishes you ordered. I like the roast pork because it is lean. So good that you were served chicken rice. Price very cheap. Hope they won’t hike up the price as everything is costing more these days.
People talk about prices of things going up. Maybe there is a bit like there is talk about drinks in coffee shops going up by 20-50 sen. I always order a small bottle of dinking water and it is still RM1. Hope it will stay that way.

I feel as though there is an endless supply of eateries in Malaysia. We are blessed for choice.
Indeed! Here, everywhere, every other shop is a coffee shop or a restaurant, never short of places to go and eat…but of course, one would need to know where the good ones are.
