Smaller than this…

I was here in November, 2020, over a year ago, one early morning after dropping my girl off at school. I had their stewed pork noodles and it turned out to be really good. I made up my mind there and then that I would go back there to check out what else the guy had on his menu but somehow or other, I never did.

Well, I happened to be in the vicinity the other day so I decided to stop by. Previously, the guy was assisted by one young boy but this time around, there were two ladies there with him, probably the wife and the daughter…

I asked for his kampua mee, white (RM3.50)…

…and yes, it turned out to be pretty good, nicer than some but no, there wasn’t anything to make it stand out a head above the rest. Yes, I wouldn’t mind having it…

…should I happen to be around this part of the woods but I wouldn’t go out of my way to come here for this.

I did not think I could finish the regular bowl of pian sip (meat dumplings)…

…so I asked the guy if he had something smaller. They do serve that at some places – just a few of those dumplings in the soup for say, RM2.00 or RM2.50. Unfortunately, he said that they only had one size (RM3.50), take it or leave it. I wanted to give it a try to see if it was any good so I went ahead and ordered that.

It turned out that it wasn’t all that big, quite manageable and I liked the clear soup a lot, very mild and refreshing. As far as the pain sip was concerned, I felt there was room for improvement – the skin was all right, not overcooked till too soft and limp but at some places, they would roll it one by one to make it really thin and nice. I prefer those a lot more. Other than that, there wasn’t a lot of (minced) meat in the dumplings or it needed a little bit more seasoning, just a little bit, as it was rather bland.

As I was eating it, I found two bits of these curly vegetables (khiew chai)…

…in the soup. Luckily, the taste had not been absorbed by the soup – I wouldn’t have liked it like that even though those vegetables in rich bone stock on their own do make very nice soup.

Of course I was delighted that the guy did not use any of those plastic bowls and plates – for that, I would give him my two thumbs up in approval.
