One plus one…

Since it opened in mid-2019, I’ve been here…

…twice only, the first time and after that, I went back there again as there was something that I wanted to try, the reason being there are way too many traffic lights along this rather busy road. I’d much sooner use the two other alternative routes to go to town or to go back home.

I dropped by early one morning the other day as I wanted to buy the buns from the bakery next door – they do supply them to one of my neighbourhood shops regularly but they are always sold out. It was not open yet so in the end, I decided to take a seat at the coffee shop to enjoy their gu tor mee (beef tripe noodles) while waiting. After all, I had not had it for so long.

I ordered their beef tripe soup with kampua mee kosong (no meat) and they asked me if I wanted the noodles with lard or just ordinary shallot oil. Of course, I wanted the lard and according to that A4 notice below their menu…

…that would be RM4.00 a plate. Just don’t ask me what kampua keropok is for honestly, I simply do not know!

The kopi-o kosong (no sugar added, RM1.50)…

…was very good. I could detect the fragrance the instant the lady placed the cup on the table in front of me. I love that old school cup and saucer that they used.

The kampua mee (RM4.00)…

…was, at best, just all right. It sure did not sweep me off my feet as I thought it was a little overdone, too soft/soggy for my liking.

The soup wasn’t anything to shout about either and there was so very little gu tor/beef tripe (RM7.00)…

…in it plus the chili dip wasn’t entirely to my liking either. There are quite a few in town that I enjoyed a lot more including this one that was only RM6.00 a set, compared to RM11.00 here!!! It was only RM5,00 here, way back in 2019!

The total for all that I had for breakfast…

…that morning came up to RM12.50 and I wouldn’t say I did not feel the pinch!

It seems they have this special Sarawak laksa

…on some Saturdays but for RM20.00 a bowl, I think I’d just give it a miss, thank you very much.

I did not see the old couple there so I asked the lady and she told me that they would drop by later every morning just to sit around and spend some time there but no, they do not do any cooking anymore.

NOODLE SHOP is located right next to BAKELICIOUS, along Brooke Drive at the Brooke Business Centre, on your left if you are driving from town, in that block of shops past Jalan Kumpang after you have gone past the building where the Sheraton Restaurant is, before you get to the traffic lights where you turn right to get to the KPJ Sibu Medical Centre.
