In my previous post, I mentioned that many stalls at the coffee shops in the Rejang Park commercial centre here have closed down. Looking around, it seemed that only the kampua mee stalls are left standing.
This shop…

…is no exception.
I was somewhat surprised that the bakery has called it a day and wrapped up its business completely. I used to go and buy their very nice butter biscuits and their ham & sour cream rolls were pretty good too even though in my opinion, the ones from Xiao Pao Wang in Padungan, Kuching had a slight edge over those here. Ah well! As they say, beggars can’t be choosers!
The kitchen at the back seemed to be closed too, all dark, no life whatsoever. All that was left was the kampua mee stall in front and the steamer by the side full of steamed paos.
I did try their paos a long time ago in 2010, only RM1.70 each at the time and again in 2014, still RM1.70 each then but I could not remember as to whether they were any good or not. That was why I decided to buy a few to give it a try.
According to the lady who came to talk to me, these (RM2.30 each)…

…were made by the lady boss, the lǎo bǎn niáng (老板娘 ) who also made the vegetable paos and another one, I can’t remember what that was now. The rest of the buns in the steamer were sourced by the boss from somewhere else – some other people made those and they just took from them to sell.
I tried one…

…and I found that the filling was all minced meat compressed into a lump…

…with a bit of egg in it, like those that my sister gave me the other day.
Yes, it…

…was nice but I prefer the ones from my sister but those were RM2.70 each. The ones here are very much cheaper.
I guess at the end of the day, it will boil down to where I would be and which would be more convenient for me to buy, no need to go out of my way to do that.
