So what have the ladies in the house been up to lately? My missus went and made these Sibu Foochow-style sio bee using some pian sip (wanton) skin that she picked up at a supermarket here…
Yes, they were nice, just that there are some nice ones around, not difficult to go and buy.
My girl’s friend/ex-classmate saw the photo she shared on Instagram and asked for the recipe. I was there and I heard the mum telling her. Goodness gracious me! With that many ingredients, a little bit of this and a little bit of that – dark soy sauce, light soy sauce, oyster sauce, a teaspoon of this, half a teaspoon of that etc…etc…etc… *faints* I sure would not want to go through all that trouble to make those. LOL!!! But to give credit where credit is due, I guess that is why her fried rice is a whole lot nicer than mine.
In the meantime, my girl bought this filo pastry…
…PAMPAS brand, made in Australia from that supermarket in town and she made these spanarkopita – a savoury Greek spinach pie…
…which turned out really nice. I loved the thin, flaky pastry – best piping hot from the oven. For the filling she had chopped spinach, cheese, dill (from my garden), the whole works.
My ex-student, currently stuck in Manila, commented, “That’s my favorite. My colleague used to make it for us when I was in Kazakhstan,” and my blogger-friend, Jenn, said, “I love this a lot! Learned from my sis mil who is Greek… sooo tasty… name is funky but taste is fab!”
Of course, I never heard of it before, much less taste it…and now I have!
TA KIONG EMPORIUM (2.2933,111.82713,783) is located at No. 42-46, Jalan Tuanku Osman.
Yeah sometimes that little extra goes a long way huh! 😀 So more ingredients will give a little more texture and taste. :p
Must know the compatibility and the correct combination too! Otherwise, the result can be disastrous!
You are not alone. I won’t go through all the trouble to make those sio bee. I always go for hassle free recipes. Yes, the name is funky, like you say… Spanar kopitiam… LOL…. 😂😂😂
Birds of the same feather flock together. I see any recipe with a long list of ingredients, I feel tired already.
Especially when one needs a little bit of everything and one have to get a whole big packet of them. The rest will sleep in the pantry and wait till the mood kicks in then get to use it again …LOL….☺️☺️☺️
EXACTLY!!! We have packets of so many things in the house, all opened and used a bit – sitting there staring at me in the face every day. Beh tahan!!! Sometimes I would just take and throw away, especially when already expired – more often than not, not going to be used again.
I also never heard of it, I mean the pastry your girl bought… I guess we are outdated.. hahaha… Your wife is really a good cook, I must say!
I’ve heard of it but I do not really know what it is. Yes, we are ancient! Many other types of pastry too!!! Hmmm…my missus will be flattered to hear you say that! LOL!!!
I would like to learn how to make dumplings with those tiny precise folds.
Don’t look at me! I am quite hopeless at such dainty jobs. LOL!!!
