I only like the chicken pies here – none from the other bakeries here have any that I enjoy and will go back for more. We cannot get any of these here anymore and once in Kuching, there were those beef pies from Mrs. Macs and Four’n Twenty, way back in 2009, but I hear for reasons unknown, they do not stock up on those anymore these days even though they did have a faithful following.
Well, my girl stumbled upon these…
*photo from their website*
…at a supermarket in town and of course she wasted no time in grabbing a pack to try.
The flimsy plastic pack did not look very impressive and there was a plain white sticker on it declaring that they were Hiestand par-baked chicken mushroom pies. It had a Malaysian address and it did state in big case letters – PRODUCT OF MALAYSIA. I went and googled it up and it turned out, if I am not mistaken, to be an Australian company but it has a base in Malaysia, Bangi, Selangor to be exact.
My girl put them in the oven to bake till the raw pastry had turned nice and lightly golden…
…and finally, the moment of truth!!!
Yes, they were very very very nice…
…much nicer than the ones here that we all love a lot, more western, less Asian in taste and more generous with the filling. They’re not that expensive actually – RM13.80 for two so that works out to RM6.90 each.
The mum went back there again the other day but unfortunately, they were all sold out. She did manage to get a pack of the black pepper chicken and she loved it – of course, she would since they were spicy or to be exact, very peppery. Think Prosperity Burger…and you’ll get what I mean.
I do hope they will bring in some more in due course – I certainly will want to go back there and grab some more.

Wow the pies must be really darn good huh! Until you guys immediately return to restock. Unfortunately it is sold out. Guess it is really that good.
Yes, very good. Other than the one that we like, our local bakeries suck at baking pies, quiches…all not nice!
Mrs. Macs! That’s a company based in Perth. I even worked there before (only 4 days if i remember correctly) when i was just migrated to Perth. They have a cafe/shop attached to their factory selling their products and i always go there to buy their “second” products for only $1 per pie or in bag $5 for 6 pies.
Not bad the pies, typical frozen pies one can buy overseas, just heat up in the oven and eat. I had my fair share when in New Zealand. Our John’s Pie in Kuching quite similar.
I seldom grab this frozen pies from Supermarket. Still faithfully stick to the ones from John’s Pie or Aloha Bakery, my two favourite places.
Can’t say I’m crazy about John’s – will eat, will not go out of my way to look for it. Same thing with Aloha’s – I find only the quiches are nice. If I were in Kuching, I would stick loyally to Kai Joo Lane’s meat pastries. Die die must eat one!!! LOL!!!
I love pies but somehow can’t find really good ones. There is a pie shop near me called A Pie Thing. I must pop over to try and see if their pies are any good.
Not sure, have never gone round eating pies at your side so dunno if there are any good ones around.
I like chicken pies too but I haven’t check out AEON for frozen ones before…. If they have these like yours, I wouldn’t mind buying some back to try…
Yes, good buy! Dunno any place that stocks up on these pies over there.
RM6.90 wow that’s dear, you can get a frozen one here for NZ$5.00 with 6 pies inside.
Yes, I feasted on them when I was there – just buy from the convenience store, microwave and enjoy. One of the few things there I could afford! Here! I did blog about the ones I had – NZD2.99 each, around RM6.00 – not cheap & not really nice…

Ooh, those pies do look delicious.
Yes, waiting for their new stock to arrive. Will grab some more. We only bought two (one pack) that day to try.
Those pies look really good 😊 been thinking of buying frozen pies for my lunch at work because they’d be cheaper
Yes, they’re cheaper overseas, not exactly cheap but one of the few things more affordable.
Here we have Polar puffs and cakes which also sells chicken pies. I always end up buying their curry puffs, must try their chicken pies one of these days.
I don’t mind good curry puffs. Most of those at the bakeries here suck big time, their chicken pies too…and they’re so expensive, not worth buying.
