I cannot remember where or when the last time I had kuih pai tee (top hats) was, probably in 2012, but it sure was a long long time ago. Well, the other day, I dropped by that stall here and when the boy saw me, he told me right away that they had kuih pai tee that morning and of course, I wanted that.
They were 4 for RM3.00…
…and yes, they were very very nice. I sure wouldn’t mind going for them again but there I was, wishing that they had served them in a nice, decent-looking plate and not in a bowl and a horrendously coloured plastic one at that. The Peranakans are very particular about these things, those nyonyas will make use of their priceless crockery, going all out to impress. I am quite sure they will have fits if they happen to see this! I can imagine my late aunt frowning and grumbling away. “Tak senonoh!” she would say, for sure.
That obviously was not very much so I ordered a plate of kampua mee kosong, tossed in chili sauce (RM2.30)…
…from the stall at the food court (No.2). I did not want any meat as it was a Friday and I was abstaining from that. I had it before and yes, the one here is pretty decent, nothing to make it stand out above the rest but everytime I go there, I see a lot of people going for it but on my part, I don’t think I’ll be going back for it again here unless they stop using plastic to serve the noodles.

…is what kuih pai tee looks like and just as in the case of popiah – you will need to know how to make the skin, if you want to make kuih pai tee, you must know how to make those shells. I did ask the lady whether they would make those for sale and she said no. Sighhhhhhh!!!
