Blanket…

I’ve blogged about this before, way back in 2012 – what we called a “chicken in the blanket” and how when I cooked that the first time, I was careless when taking it out of the oven and my hand touched the hot grill at the top and suffered a very serious burn that took months and months to heal.

When she was little, my girl was not into eating and though she would take her milk regularly, she was very very thin. That was kind of worrying so we took her to see the doctor but he said it was perfectly all right – after all, she was super hyperactive, not a problem at all.

I had some bread in the fridge so the other morning, I decided I would make some again – the chicken in the blanket and these were the ingredients I prepared this time around…

Chicken in a blanket, ingredients

– bread, butter, cheese slices, sliced tomato, omelette and chicken sausages, pan grilled. Of course it is up to you what you want to add, mushroom perhaps. thinly sliced cucumber or lettuce, mayo, just to name a few possibilities.

I rolled the bread a bit to stretch it a little and as it was taken straight out from the fridge, it was kind of hard and dry and I was afraid it would come apart in the preparation. I stacked everything on it…

…and rolled it up and used toothpicks to hold everything together…

Rolled up

…before putting it in the oven to toast for around 20 minutes.

The cheese melted and flowed out a bit at the bottom but other than that, it turned out fine…

Chicken in a blanket

Yes, I would say it was very nice…

Chicken in a blanket, cross-section

…but I think it would be pretty much the same if eaten in the form of a simple sandwich, no need to go through all that hassle unless like me, way back in those long gone days, you have a kid to entertain…especially at a time like this with the partial lockdown/MCO extended till 28th April and looking like it is never going to come to an end. Sighhhh!!!!
