I mentioned in my earlier post that we flew over to Kuching to attend my niece’s wedding.
This time around, we went on the World’s No. 1 low-cost airline, not that it was all that “low cost” since it was during the school holidays and I managed to catch a glimpse of the bird’s eye view of Sibu town…
…soon after take-off and in some 30-40 minutes, we were already approaching Kuching city…
I always hear people complaining about delays and re-timing and all that – thank goodness I have been lucky whenever I take a flight to somewhere, praise the Lord.
We all stayed at this hotel…
…there. For one thing, it was very convenient for us as it was the venue of the banquet the night of the wedding…
…and the nuptial ceremony was held that morning at this lovely place right next door.
We got there at around noon and I promptly went to check in only to be told that the room was not ready and we would have to wait till 3.00 p.m. According to the guy, their check-out time is 12.00 noon but their check-in time is 3.00 p.m. Of course I was quite pissed off and no, I did not want the concierge to keep our baggage in the hot and stuffy storeroom as there were perishables (food from Sibu) in our bags.
I told the ladies to go and roam around the adjoining mall and go for lunch there while I sat in the lobby and kept vigil, all eyes on our suitcases and chiller bags and whatever else beside me. In the meantime, I took out the food from the airline and ate – I always take the (cheaper) package inclusive of food, baggage allowance (20 kg), seat and insurance when I book the air tickets online. I did not know if they saw that but within minutes, the guy approached me and passed me the key cards to our room!
We asked for the family room…
…RM220 per night and yes, it was very nice – nice and new, with a spacious washroom…
…and the room itself was quite big too…
…but the one where we stayed in Miri, though not so new, was much bigger and cheaper – the rate was the same but that was inclusive of breakfast and when it came to the warm hospitality of the members of the staff, the people at the latter were very much nicer.
This was the view…
…from the room, facing the Central Padang and this was what we could see from the lift lobby…
A storm was brewing and yes, it rained cats and dogs when we went out for dinner that first night in Kuching – stick around, the post on that is coming right up after this!
And this is the sunrise view…
…that you will get to see if you are an early riser like me.
We stayed here for 6 days/5 nights and on the whole, it was good, comfortable, great location and all.
