Dim lights…

This was on Thursday last week, Ascension Thursday, a Holy Day of Obligation so we went to the service at the church that we usually frequent at 7.30 p.m. They usually have it so late on working/school days because some parents will have to pick their kids from school, those in the afternoon session, at 6.30 p.m. so they would be able to go home, have dinner and change and make it in time for the service.

It ended at around 8.30 p.m. and even though we had had our dinner earlier, we stopped by here for a little something before heading home. I prefer going in the daytime when I will be able to take more flattering snapshots in broad daylight which would be quite a challenge in the dim lights here at night. That is why you will find that the photos in this post do not really portray everything that we had in the best light.

I had their iced chocolate…

…which certainly did not look quite like that because it was very thick, very rich and creamy and very much to my liking and I had their mango cake…

…too. The ladies also tried it and we all agreed it was very nice, nicer than what we had tried here before but their strawberry cake had an edge over the one that I bought here or from the bakery at the back, to be exact.

My girl and her mum had their iced chai tea latte and cappuccino…

…respectively and the latter had these guacamole avocado potato tapas…

I did try a bit but no, it was not to my liking. If I remember correctly, I did buy a bottle of guacamole dip once or maybe it was my girl who did that and I didn’t like it very much either. I think nobody quite enjoyed it so after it had been sitting in the fridge a tad too long, eventually, I got rid of it.

My girl ordered their chicken meatballs with BBQ sauce and mashed potatoes…

…and yes, the meatballs were good, complemented by the delightful sauce but in her opinion, the mashed potatoes here or here are a cut above this one.

The total for all that we had came up to over RM70.00 and if you think that was not cheap, I would most certainly agree…wholeheartedly! It definitely is not cheap hanging out at these places but it sure seems that those from the younger generation do not mind forking out quite a bit to sit around such coffee joints to pass the time and chat the night away. My girl does frequent this place and some of the others in town with her friend(s) quite frequently.

  1. Not cheap and also not my kind of food.

It’s more for young people to sit and chat the night away, not for old folks like us…and if there is free wifi, all the more reason to get them to stay longer. This would be something like what we did in our teenage days, hang out at coffee shops – in Kuching, I loved doing that at St Mike.

  2. Bottled guacamole does not taste nice. I had it once and I would not buy it. Fresh is best but not so convenient to make since we need ripe avocados and these are so pricey.

I did not like the bottled one I bought. Dunno if they made their own or not and if they did, it did not win me over. My girl loves avocado so we do buy quite regularly – expensive and half the time, rotten, had to throw all away. Sad.
