I say yes…

In Korean, 네 (ne) means yes, so Nene means yes…yes. On the other hand, in our Foochow dialect, it means no or no need. For instance, when somebody gives you something, it is considered polite to refuse…or at least, pretend to do so and say, “Ne…ne!!!”

I guess everybody knows that it is also the name of one of those Korean fried chicken franchises and an outlet just opened its doors here…

Nene Chicken

…not too long ago, around the end of March, if I remember correctly. It is in an extension on its own, attached to a mega mall here and I was glad to note that it has its own washrooms and there is no need to go all the way into the mall should the need arise.

There is a counter…

…where you place your order and then you go and take a seat, bringing along one of these…

Beeper

It will beep when your order is ready and you will have to go back to the counter to get it.

When we dropped by that day, we had one of their current Raya promotions where we got 3 drinks of our own choice and 3 packets of French fries…

…with four pieces of their chicken with mala sauce…

Mala sauce

…and four pieces with the fiery topokki sauce…

Topokki

The former seemed to be coated with honey so it was slightly sweet and there was just a hint of spiciness whereas the latter was hot, spicy but we were perfectly all right with it.

The nice girl who took our orders at the counter did say we could change the chicken to the original non-spicy ones but we decided to just stick to what was in the set so at least, we could try those. The set was RM62.90 but there was that 6% SST so the total came up to RM66.65 and I just paid her RM70.00 and told her to just keep the change.

NENE CHICKEN SIBU (2.305047, 111.863848) is located to the right of the Star Mega Mall (if you are driving, you will have to go all the way to the back round the building to get here) along Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman 6.
