Out of control…

Last Saturday evening, we decided to go for a late dinner after the novena and sunset service at the church that we frequent here and we stopped by this restaurant because we do like the food and its location is quite convenient for us, just a little detour on our way home.

Of course, we had to have my favourite clear fish maw soup…

…and I sure enjoyed that.

My girl said that I mentioned once that I wanted their stewed pork leg but when we got here that day, it was not open yet so we went some place else. I ordered that with two stewed eggs…

…but because I was famished by then and somewhat went out of control and ordered too much for the three of us that night, we only managed to finish the eggs and had a couple of pieces of the meat and tapao-ed the rest home.

We are not all that fond of the prawn fritters, mostly batter, hardly any prawn but my girl said she had not had that for a long time so of course, what she wants, she gets…

…and she also wanted their very nice mini-ngor hiang. The mum kept grumbling about the prawn fritters but I did come across a bit of prawn in one that I had and anyway, I thought the batter tasted quite nice and my girl seconded my opinion on it.

This is our favourite vegetable…

A-Plus kut kut chai

…here, the kut kut chai (slippery vegetable) and had it ching chao (fried plain with garlic).

We should have stopped there but I saw they had ladies’ fingers and I asked for that too, fried with sambal hay bee/udang kering (dried prawns)…

…and it was really good – I am pretty sure we would want to order that again the next time we drop by.

The total for all the dishes came up to RM61.00 and that, of course, came as no surprise as I did feel that I had ordered too much and I did not ask for servings for 2 either. Nonetheless, it did not really matter as we all enjoyed our somewhat heavy late dinner before we headed home happily that night.

  1. Out of control and ordered too much – it doesn’t matter since you all took the unfinished food home to be eaten on another day. I would definitely order the eggs with pork.

Personally, I love the stewed eggs more than the meat. There was a bit of each of the vegetable dishes left too but my missus said there was too little and did not want them packed to take home. A bit sayang, I thought, as they were very nice but maybe after reheating, it would not be so nice anymore.

    1. at least you did brought home the extra meat. As for bits here and there, I will usually combine them into my container from home and then cook fried rice with them – something like “chop suey” origins which is cooked from leftovers.

I did think of mixing the two together but since my missus was not keen, I did not insist.

  2. I do think you have ordered too much for 3 persons. For me, I will just order the two vegetable dishes and the stew pork leg with eggs. I like the kut kut chai too.

Usually we will order one meat, one veg and a soup – must learn to control myself in future, must not get carried away. LOL!!!

  3. kut kut chai = slippery vegetable is not a phrase i’ve heard before! cute name for a veggie, hehe 😀

It has its own name – in Cantonese or Mandarin, I think but we just call it kut kut chai.

  4. lol, I didn’t know that slippery veggie is called ‘kut kut chai’! the name is so cute!

Sounds almost like cute cute, eh? LOL!!

  5. That’s what usually happens when I am very hungry too. I think that I can eat a horse and I order lots and end up feeling so stuffed and bloated.

I hate that feeling. Would rather get them to pack the leftovers to take home. Never go to sleep when so full – you’ll end up having nightmares. LOL!!!

  6. Don’t worry, eat happy!! hahaha… yeah, normally when we are super hungry, we tend to order more than we could finish!!

Yes. eat and enjoy but everything in moderation – once in a long while ain’t too bad.

  7. When me and my buddy go out for dinner, sometimes we tend to over order too as everything we also want and with the two of us, we thought we could share and finish but in the end we were too full

I will ask them to pack and take home…if the dish is nice.

  8. I spy healthy and yummy greens! Looks like the lady’s fingers are perfectly cooked.

Yes, and it was not slimy. I am not so crazy about ladies fingers if they are slimy after cooking.
