White rabbit…

In my previous post, I mentioned that after our dinner, we adjourned next door

Nica Gelateria

…for dessert.

This is not a very big place, always very full so now they have extended to include the floor upstairs…

Upstairs

…as well.

Actually, another reason why I wanted to drop by was because my friend, Annie, in KL was raving about the White Rabbit ice cream she had there and when she was here the other day, much to her surprise, she was delighted to see that they have the White Rabbit gelato…

White Rebbit gelato

…here. I sampled a bit but it didn’t exactly turn me on and since all of us were not into gelato that day, we decided to go for something else instead.

My girl wanted the tiramisu mille crepe (RM9.00)…

Tiramisu mille crepe

…and yes, it was very good, as good as I could remember it to be but the rum and raisin mille crepe (RM7.80)…

…that we also ordered seemed to pale in comparison with what we used to have a long time ago. This one was not that strong on the rum and raisin flavour that we used to like a lot.

I saw that they had burgers so I ordered one, their black beef burger (RM11.00)…

…to try. That certainly spoke volumes about how filling the dinner we had earlier was. There were a few other types of burgers, all charcoal bun, and even for this one, one could choose to add this and that but I was quite happy the way it was.

I liked that piece of parmesan crisp and there was some melted cheese on the very nice freshly-made beef patty and I spotted some caramelised onions underneath the meat…

I had half of it and the ladies has a quarter each and we all came to the general consensus that it was very nice…for a burger, nicer than others elsewhere including this one, the bun especially.

NICA GELATERIA (2.302620, 111.842988) is located at Wisma Liberty/Wisma Sri Minyak at No. 14, Block 3, Jalan Pedada (now Jalan Datuk Wong Soon Kai) – on your left, past the Jalan Ulu Oya Road traffic lights if you are coming from town.

  1. I remember at one time this charcoal bun was very popular but now it seems to die of. RM11 for that small burger is expensive but then again the freshly-made beef patty isn’t cheap too. The white rabbit sweet was our childhood sweets.

I think charcoal buns are always available at most bakeries, not that I will go and buy even though they say it’s healthier. Not really into bread.

The burger was not small, normal burger size – I’ve had others elsewhere a lot more expensive but I am not into those things so I do not know the going prices in general. But the patty did not taste like those frozen ones one would get elsewhere and there was the parmesan cheese crisp and the melted cheese, not the slice – which is not all that cheap either, depending on the brand.

  2. Mille crepe for me.

White rabbit gelato?? Sweet? I remember the candy was sweet. Used to like it as kid, maybe because of the melted sheet that attached to the candy. Lol

Lovely dessert. But I dont have habit of having dessert after a meal. Hardly space in my tummy for dessert. Lol.

No, it wasn’t sweet and it was not rich and creamy like the sweet either, like eating condensed milk straight. My girl would not eat it, never fond of it as the paper wrapping put her off but our time, that was part of the attraction. the mere idea of eating paper was a thrill. Such silly kids, we were then.

I would not be able to eat dessert either after a heavy meal but that night, we did not really have a lot so there was ample room for it.

  3. white rabbit items seem popular these days. that day I went to a cafe that serves white rabbit drinks but none of our group ordered that. wow, you all can still eat after the first dinner so means it is not filling at all.

I just saw on Facebook – they have White Rabbit beer. I guess this is the trend now, after salted egg everything!

You’re right – the dinner was not all that filling. We did not order all that much.

  4. I wonder what flavor is white rabbit? I am a chocolate girl and that would be my preferred flavor. Ooohh…. mille crepe hee..hee… I can’t resist those!

  5. White rabbit is the current “in” ingredient in KL too.. with gelato and recently I saw white rabbit pasta too (hmm..).

It is becoming like that salted egg trend, now it is white rabbit everything!

  6. Oh gee, I would be intrigued to try the white rabbit ice cream too.

I expected it to be rich and creamy like condensed milk, the way the sweet was but it didn’t seem quite like not.
