I’m sixty-six today…
We had an early celebration that day as the ladies had their own plans and my girl went and bought a cake…
…from one of the bakeries in our neighbourhood, one of my favourites – the Japanese baked cheesecake…
…and yes, we did enjoy it.
We went out for dinner that night at that place that was closed when we went last week. I would say it looks nicer in front…
…with its bakery section…
…on the left of its entrance…
…now.
We asked my sister to join us and we ordered a few dishes to share, starting off with their Ceasar salad (RM12.90)…
The dressing was kind of sour but when mixed together with everything, we thought it was quite good.
We wanted the seafood chowder but it was not available so we decided to go without any soup.
The bacon and mushroom baked rice (RM18.50)…
…was very nice – everyone loved it…but the serving is quite small though, probably just right for one person and without everything else, I would not think there would be enough to go round.
The lamb shank (RM42.00)…
…looked like it had been stewed over and over again for a long time but it was quite all right inside…
I had the lamb shank here before and it was very much nicer (and cheaper too – RM33.50 in 2015) – perhaps they no longer have that same chef at the helm. I would say that the one here, RM33.90 only when we had it there in June this year, would win hands down…and we had a very good one here as well except that we have not been there for quite a while so I am not sure whether it is still on the menu and if is, whether it is still as good. I have this thing about my lamb shank being served on a bed of mashed potatoes but no, the one we had that night only had some crinkle-cut fries by the side. All things considered, I don’t think that is one dish we would order should we happen to drop by here again.
The pork cutlet (RM22.50)…
…was a disappointment as well – it was on the tough side and very salty. The waitress was right – the slices were very small and she also said it would be marinated with black pepper only, no sauce…
What was served with it in the gravy jug looked like mushroom.
The kitchen was closed from 4.00 p.m. till 6.00 p.m. but we were in no hurry to go anywhere so it was perfectly all right with us – we just waited till it was time to order and yes, the service was good (even though the waitress seemed more comfortable and chose to speak Malay instead of English) and our orders did come very fast. There were hits and misses before when it was under a different name but personally, I liked the setting before…and yes, even though the caption below their new name stated, “SIMPLY THE BEST“, listening to Miss Tina Turner belting out the song in a loop (with a video clip of the staff doing some kind of dance on repeat on their television screens, not that they were good at it, not even a bit) the whole time we were there was pushing it a bit too far.
