I didn’t expect this…

We dropped by here

Outright Coffee

…again for lunch the other day, my third visit to the place.

When we were there that previous time, we were feeling very full so we did not eat anything – my girl just had one of the omelettes and in the meantime, I saw on their Facebook page some new additions to their menu that I thought would be gluten-free and my girl would be able to enjoy them.

We were given this complimentary drink…

…their pink passion soda, for purchases from their lunch and dinner menu over RM30.00 on a single receipt – the ladies loved it a lot…

…but I wasn’t all that thrilled by it – it had a sourish hint to it, you see…and like I always say, fat people do not like sour stuff. LOL!!!

The mum had their barbecued chicken with fruit salad and baked wedges (RM15.90)…

…and she wanted that with mushroom sauce but got rosemary instead. It did not matter much though as  the sauce was very nice and went really well with the chicken.

My girl didn’t want much so she just had the grilled barbecued chicken chop with fries (RM13.90)…

…and she got the mushroom sauce with her order. Yes, she enjoyed the chicken and yes, she liked the fries which looked and tasted like their own-made, not those scrawny supermarket shoestrings which would turn dry and hard and all shrivelled up at places where they over-fry them.

I had the golden fried chicken chop with spaghetti bolognese (RM16.90)…

…and since they coated the chicken with bread crumbs, my girl would not be able to have that, not gluten-free and the spaghetti is a definite no-no as well unless she brings her own pasta for them to use as a substitute. The chicken went well with the mushroom sauce and personally, I did not think, compared to the grilled barbecued one, it was as compatible with the rosemary.

We sure enjoyed our lunch that day and I had already passed the cash to the cashier to pay for our orders when an ex-student of mine, a professional photographer now, there for a pre-wedding shoot (and that sure speaks volumes about how nice the place is), walked in…and he insisted that he would like to give me a treat and asked that they returned the money to me. Wow!!! I didn’t expect that, thank you so much, Albert…and it sure was nice seeing you again (and your family too) after all these years.

Of course, now that they have a lot more on their menu other than coffee and cakes and pancakes and waffles, they would be seeing a lot more of us in the days to come.

  1. I like the look of your chicken chop coated with bread crumbs. That day, I had cornflakes chicken cutlet and breaded chicken cutlet at Swensens, the breaded one was good but the cornflakes chicken cutlet was on the tough and hard side, too crispy and dry.

I would choose wedges over fries. I love to see wedges a lot, especially with those mayo sauce, yums!

Those were sweet potato wedges, baked…not fried, very nice! Both versions of the chicken that we had were nice and the sauces to go with them were great too so I guess it all boils down to whether you like it grilled/barbecued…or fried and what sides you prefer.

  2. Among all the 3 sets, I will go for Mel’s oder. Wedges or french fries, both are ok to me.

Why? It’s the same as what my missus had, same size…not smaller. Only the sides are different. I don’t mind wedges either and those were sweet potatoes…and baked, not fried, very nice! Not into the fruit salad…nor the spaghetti bolognese – I only like the beef bolognese sauce at Payung, so the next time I will just order with fries…or request for wedges instead.

  3. Wah your former student is so nice to insist the cashier return you your cash so that he can pay for you. Luckily you didn’t pay using credit card because it would be too much trouble to refund the money back to your credit card.

I seldom use my credit card, dunno if they accept those here.

  4. Is the thing in photo 1 a decorative floral display? I cannot decipher what it is.

It’s a plant, maybe from the cactus family. I thought it looks like the albino version of my spider plant but the leaves are longer and curl up a bit at the end. Very nice, that was why I snapped a photograph of it.

  5. Such nice treat for your ex-student to pay the tab.

The food indeed looked nice and tasty. Huge portion too.

I don’t mind the passion soda. A little bit of sour is fine with me.

So blessed, so thankful. With the likes of these, very few and far between, it sure makes one feel that all the blood, sweat and tears had been worth the while.

Yes, food’s good here – we sure would want to go again.

  6. a very cool coincidence to bump into another ex-student – and it shows what a good teacher you were, that your students appreciate and honour your efforts after all these years!

Yes, indeed so very blessed to have SOME very nice students who do remember…but of course, unfortunately, there are some who remember only the not so nice things. Just goes to show that one just can’t please everybody. Sigh!!!

  7. The prices are very reasonable, especially yours! Two in one, I like that choice. And all ends well, you are indeed famous and respectable person in Sibu!

To some, thankfully! LOL!!! Yes, we felt the prices here are not bad, may be cheaper than some places of this same class.

  8. The food does look very good! Your ex-student is so kind to give you and your girls a treat.

Yes, I kept saying no, no need but he insisted so I relented. Wink! Wink! LOL!!!
