Well, I guess I did go a bit overboard that evening but we were all very hungry. That is why people say it is best to go shopping for food when you are very full – in the end, you will not buy anything! LOL!!!
We did not have a very heavy lunch last Saturday but still, 4 something to 5 was rather early for dinner so just like the previous week, we went for the novena and the sunset service at our regular church and dropped by here…
…when it was all over, at past 8.00 p.m. for a bite to eat. It wasn’t along our way home but it was pretty close by and we did not need to venture into the town centre proper so it was quite a convenient stop for us.
Of course, we were VERY hungry by the time we got there and of course, I had to have my not-to-be-missed fish maw clear soup…
I do enjoy it very much and my girl would insist on having her favourite here, their very nice ngor hiang…
– I did hear that they had lokan (clams) in the minced meat filling but I never bothered to ask them about it.
I also asked for the stewed pork trotter…
…for one but the nice young boy said that their smallest serving would be two so two it was! Ooopsss!!! I forgot to ask for the stewed eggs – I would enjoy that very much, I know!
The dish came out looking rather dark, darker than usual and upon tasting, it seemed like it was the black vinegar version and I was fine with it. I did wish there was a bit of fat though – all I had was meat…and the skin and tendon.
We had the cangkuk manis fried with egg…
…and also this sea cucumber and egg dish…
At one time, some places here had sharks’ fins done this way, the dry version that was more appropriate for buffet dinners but of course, these days, we would not want to have anything with sharks’ fins anymore – save the sharks – and sea cucumber is a great substitute. It would be nice if they had given us some black vinegar to toss it with – I guess I could have asked for it but we were already too full by then so we just had a bit each and asked for it and about half of the vegetable dish to be packed for us to take home.
The total for the food, rice and drinks came up to over RM60.00 and of course it did not matter one bit – most importantly, my girl enjoyed the dinner to the max and it sure was a welcome break from her daily meals at her school in the jungle. I would have ordered the claypot yam too but the boy said that we already had the soup and what I had ordered would be more than enough for the three of us. Talk about going overboard, eh? Hehehehehe!!!
