Before I leave…

Every week, before I leave for my girl’s school in the jungle to get her and bring her home, I would go and buy something for our lunch there. In the past, when she used to hitch a ride with one of her colleagues, she would leave right away after lessons ended for the day and would go hungry till she reached home at around 2 or 3 p.m. or at times, even later…and all she had had all day would probably be that one half-boiled egg for breakfast in the morning.

Because it is usually on a Friday, our no-meat day, that would make it a bit more difficult…plus I would have to make sure it is gluten-free, no wheat flour, no soy sauce, no tomato sauce.

The Sarawak/Kuching laksa here

…is fine as long as I remember to tell them that we do not want the shredded chicken which hasn’t much taste, anyway, something we can do without.

I’ve bought the very nice nasi lemak from here

Bandong Walk nasi lemak

…before and my girl loves the sambal sotong but I have a feeling she is not really into nasi lemak and more often than not, she would finish the sambal and I would have to eat up what’s left so nothing goes to waste.

I’ve never bought this here

101 chao chai hung ngang

…nor this here

…before but I am pretty sure that it would not be a problem and of course, I would have to ask them to leave out the meat. However, I would also need to get them to pack the soup/broth and noodles separately and we can easily heat up the former when we get there and pour onto the latter so we can enjoy it piping hot.

I guess there is no meat nor soy sauce in the sambal bihun here

…so that is another option, minus the lap cheong (Chinese sausage), of course, and with specific instructions not to add any soy sauce.

Well, last Friday, I went and bought the nasi biryani

…with fish curry (RM8.00 in total)…

from here and she did enjoy it but she could barely manage half of it. Yes, I did think there was quite a lot, enough to be shared by two, plus coming back straight from class, one would be hot and tired and would not have an appetite to eat all that much.

While I was there, the nice and generous boss, Guna, gave me this…

Sri Pelita chapati and chicken rendang

…to take home and try, their chapati

Of course I did not eat it that day, not on a Friday, so I saved it and heated it up for breakfast the next morning and boy, it was really very good.

I remember I saw the chef/cook eating that and enjoying it himself once and I had always wanted to go back there again for this but I never did. I sure would love to drop by there again one morning for this.
