I want to go back there again…

That was what my girl said last Saturday so there we were, back here again

…for lunch but no, I had no intention of ordering the fish and the bitter gourd omelette or the siew yoke (roast pork) again.

I went to the stall and spotted these…

…in the cabinet so I asked the young boy what they were. Despite the sprinkling of Mandarin that I know, I could understand from his lengthy description of how they cooked it that there was chicken inside and among the ingredients used, there was curry powder and the boy added that neither soy sauce nor wheat flour was used in the making. Gee!!! I was surprised that he could remember, not that we had been there all that often. Most impressive, indeed!

I ordered two to try, (RM14.00, RM7.00 each)…

…and I sure was glad I did. It was so very nice – I guess it was because of the bit of curry powder in it that prompted my girl to say there was a hint of chicken satay in it.

I also saw these ribs (RM13.00)…

…and asked for those too – coated with red glutinous wine lees (ang zao/chao or 红槽) and deep fried. They tasted great and my girl loved them very much. On my part, I loved the meat just that I was not too keen on having to deal with the bones.

They liked the mixed vegetable soup (RM7.00)…

…too but I prefer the one that I like a lot here and all of us were in agreement that the bitter gourd with tau cheo/fermented beans (RM9.00)…

…was very good and so very cheap, considering that there were all those prawns and sotong (squid) and chicken used in the cooking.

Yes, I know! I know! I had over-ordered again, a total of RM43.00 for the fours dishes for three – just one plate of meat would have been enough but no, it did not matter one bit as most importantly, all of us enjoyed that very delightful lunch and other than that, my girl was home for the week-long school holidays and that, of course, called for a little celebration, don’t you think?

SYARIKAT KIONG CHUONG CAFE (2.291062, 111.827381) is located along Jalan Kampung Nyabor at the bend where one turns into Brooke Drive, a stone’s throw from Malaysia Hotel in the next block.

  1. Everything is so tempting except that I don’t take bitter gourd..

I know, but I sure am glad to see in your blog that you’ve been eating vegetables lately. Not too sure about those salted/preserved vegetables though – once in a while is ok but better go for fresh vegetables including bitter gourd, a lot healthier. 😀

  2. The chicken and pork ribs were good. I don’t mind the bones. As matter of fact, I like pork ribs with slight fat.

Many would be up in arms against you regarding the fat. I do love a bit of it too. 😀

  3. All the dishes are to my liking especially the bittergourd. . Any dishes with prawn is a bonus, natural sweetness.

Can’t go wrong with prawns. Somewhere in Singapore would not think this same way about the bitter gourd though – she makes it sound like it’s something horrible. Many who used to avoid the vegetable love it now…especially when it is not bitter anymore. Nice and crunchy!

  4. Mel is back for the week long school holidays. It really calls for a celebration and indulging in delicious food with the loved ones.

Yes, but so so fast!!! Already Wednesday, half the week gone! Sobssss!!!

  5. It’s okay to over-order, after all, can always tapao right 😀

We did manage to finish everything, so full right through to dinner time!

  6. The chicken wrapped in foil looks good. Yup, with the apple of papa’e eyes home, a celebration is in order!

See my face! I’m smiling from ear to ear, always happy to have her home. 🙂

  7. that wrapped chicken .. i want one! here they do have these chicken wrapped but its with soy and brown sauce.. not like the one you showed.

Yes, I had that before. This one is very much nicer! 😉

  8. foil-wrapped chicken! i’d order that too, i’d expect very tender and flavoursome meat inside 😀

It was really good. I sure would order that again the next time I drop by here.
