Different places…

This was sometime ago when my girl said that she would like the curry beef here for lunch and she had it with their nasi lemak (RM8.00)…

…while the mum had the fried noodles (RM4.50)…

I chose their salad fish rice (RM9.90)…

…and I specifically stated that I did not want the salad dressing all over the fish but they misunderstood me and served it like this…

Actually, I would not mind having it all over the lettuce and I wish they had been a bit more generous with it. There wasn’t really all that much in that little saucer.

We had already placed our orders that day when the young girl asked if we wanted some satay. What? I thought they said they would only have it on Saturday nights and Sunday mornings? No, we did not want any since what we had ordered would be filling enough but we went back there again for lunch on a later date and yes, we had their beef satay (RM2.00 per stick)…

…and their chicken satay (RM1.50 per stick)…

…and to go with those, my missus and I had their nasi lemak biasa while my girl picked their Sarawak laksa…

Now, THIS was at a different place and time- we stopped by here for dinner that day after we had dropped off my girl’s coursemate/friends off at the airport. The lady told us that we could not have most of the things on their menu as they would have been coated with batter and deep fried for use and they did have wheat flour in the mixture, most of the things except the beef so we picked the one without any soy sauce, their dry curry beef (RM17.00)…

…and yes, it was very nice. I sure would not mind ordering that again next time.

We also had their bitter gourd omelette (RM8.00)…

…and yes, it was nice too…

…but I was not fond of their kangkong belacan (RM8.00)…

…because I did not like the dried prawn paste that they used for the dish. I think I would rather order that ching chao (plain fried) if ever we should order that vegetable here again.

Both these places are located quite near my house, very convenient for us to stop by for our meals as and when the need arises instead of rushing home to cook our own.

COLOURFUL CAFE (2.316673, 111.837539) is located in the Renew4U building at the junction of Brooke Drive and Lorong Kwong Ann 8, across the road from the Church of Jesus  Christ of the Latter Day Saints and MY CHEF RESTAURANT (2.311365, 111.846638) is located along Jalan Pedada in the block of shops to the left of Delta Mall, the second one in that block if you are coming from that direction, with the Astro Sibu office at the other end of that same block.

  1. Dry curry beef & bittergourd omelette, this two dishes are good enough for me.

I would agree. Servings here are rather big, two dishes would be more than enough for three.

  2. Your new fond – bitter gourd omelette. Noticed you ordered a lot of this. Long time I did not take bitter gourd omelette. Usually order outside. Hardly cook this since kids don’t fancy bitter gourd.

Your missus’ nasi lemak with beef curry looked good. The curry was overflowed, almost dropped out of the plate. Lol.

Yes, I love it a lot! Very nice…and bitter gourd these days is not bitter, nice and crunchy! That was my girl’s nasi lemak with curry beef. The nasi lemak here is one of the better ones in town.

  3. I’d prefer my veg without the prawn paste anyway. Fresh up is best for me 😉

There are some very good ones that would surely enhance the taste. We would go for the simply-the-best homemade ones from Bintulu, at one time RM50 a kg, dunno now. But vegetables ching chao or fried plain with just garlic is nice too, can enjoy the sweetness. 😀

  4. I know what you mean about sauces, dressings, and dips they serve on the side…sometimes I would like 4 of the little cups instead of the one! LOL

Yes, so very little – I had to eat much of the lettuce without any dressing. 😦

  5. All the dishes look so good – especially the first curry and the satay.

Yes, the guy’s curries and satay are good, his masak hitam beef too is great. Lots of good stuff here. We keep going back for more.

  6. So much good food that you do not have to take out the wok and do any dishes at home! Secondly, nearby your house, so convenient… those nearby my house, I only go when “emergency days” such as raining or need a quick bite for the day…

Aiyor!!! Raining, I would not go out already. Just eat biscuits at home…or instant noodles. 😀
