Dinner time…

After our lunch together that afternoon with Michael, our ex-classmate home from Perth, Australia, Robert invited us to dinner here that very night.

He ordered one of their signature dishes, the chicken satay…

…and this time around, they added two servings of pulut lemak (glutinous/sticky rice with santan/coconut milk)…

…which was very nice, something like that version of the ketupat. We sure enjoyed that very much and it went superbly well with the peanut sauce. It sure brought the dish to a whole new level and I would love to go for it again should we happen to drop by here another time.

We also had the steamed lajong

…which was huge but this time around, it was all right as there were seven of us altogether unlike that previous time when I was here.

Robert must have read my blogpost and saw what I wrote about how we wanted the Foochow-style fried noodles then but were told they did not have that on their menu so he ordered that…

…for me to try. No, it had a taste of its own and was not anything like our true-blue authentic ones but I would say it was very nice and I did enjoy it.

This…

…I know, is the favourite of many, the mixed vegetables in a yam basket and these mini-popiahs…

…were something new that they wanted us to try. They were very small, finger size but I did not think they were anything to get excited about.

This…

…was also something new and it was pretty good – some pork dish with ginger and I could detect a hint of taucheo (fermented salted beans) in it.

Thank you so much, Robert, for the invitation. All in all, I would say it was a nice dinner and of course, nothing beats getting together with old friends to chat away about ol’ times and catch up with one another’s lives.
