I can’t say we were regulars here…
– as a matter of fact, we hardly ever bothered as by 9.00 a.m., well before 10, everything would be sold out and Ah Eng would be closing up her stall for the day. Her fried kway teow was the star attraction at this place and when we tried it the first time, my missus remarked that it was nicer than any that she had in Penang! Well, Ah Eng has decided to close down her stall and word has it that she has some nagging pain in the legs and will not be able to stand too long and that is why she has to call it quits.
In the meantime, a new girl, not a very young one and very nice and friendly, has taken over the stall selling more or less the same stuff. Somehow I could not get myself to order and try but my missus did! She asked for her sambal fried mee (noodles) but got this plate of fried kway teow, flat rice noodles (RM4.00)…
…instead but she did not mind it one bit so we did not make a fuss. My missus asked for it to be extra spicy and indeed, it was…and of course, she loved it a lot – as good as Ah Eng’s, she said.
I must say that I liked how she had gone through the trouble of removing the tails from the taugeh (bean sprouts)…
Many here do not bother at all. Tsk! Tsk!
I went to this stall…
…in the other section in that same coffee shop and had their sour (black vinegar) pork leg rice (RM7.00)…
…which was very nice though not very black…
…like others that I have had elsewhere but the next time around, I certainly would ask for more meat (and fat) – all I had that day were just skin and tendon…and bones.
I also ordered his sio bee (RM1.00) each…
…to try and I thought they were all right, not as nice as the ones I had here but they were o.k.
Another thing that I tried was his Taiwan sausage, spicy (RM4.50 each)…
I had that before in Kuching, steamed, if I am not wrong and I thought it tasted like lap cheong (Chinese sausage) and I was not in the least impressed.
Well, I was in for a pleasant surprise as the one I had here did not taste like lap cheong at all and was very nice…
…though it did not come cheap but there seemed to be a whole lot of meat inside. I sure would not mind having another go at it should I happen to drop by here again.
