Let’s get ready…

There certainly seems to be a whole lot of events going on in Sibu this year but I guess that’s to be expected considering that 2017 is Visit Sibu Year.

Not too long ago, there was the Sibu International Dance Festival and just last week, the Sibu International BASE Jump attracted jumpers from all over the world. According to the news report, there were enthusiasts from Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, New Zealand, Portugal, Russia, United Kingdom, the United States and Malaysia.

Well, the Mooncake or Lantern Festivalย also known as the Mid-Autumn or Zhongqiu Festival falls on the 4th of October this year and preparations are on the way at the town square

…starting on the 3rd until the 26th.

The 1Malaysia Food Fair will be held simultaneously at the Phase 2 section of the square, right across the road.

I dropped by the other evening…

…has been given centre stage.

There were still a lot of people working on them but that did not stop members of the public of all colour and creed ย from crowding around and posing to have their snapshots taken…

These are lanterns made of cloth…

I am very sure they would look very nice when lighted up at night…

…but I guess the only way to find out would be to drop by when everything is ready.

  1. The swan is so colourful and pretty. When everything is completedly in place, it will be nice to look at them.

Yes, they’re trying it out tonight, 30th. Hope it turns out well.

  2. Wow! This will be so awesome once it is all done and lit up. If there is such a thing over here, I’ll definitely bring the boys over. We love events such as this.

I’m sure it will. I’m not one to go for such events though – very hot and have to walk long distances, very crowded and have to park the car a mile away. May only go if I have a reason to do so, like when I have people coming on a visit. Wanna come? ๐Ÿ˜‰

  3. Wow, such eventful happenings in Sibu. Very beautiful. I like the panda bears, swan & butterflies. The place will come to life when all are lighted up. In Kuching, we have this Mooncake Festival going on at Carpenter Street but I didn’t not venture there as I am not one that like crowded places too.

Hmmm…I guess it is the same with us, old people. ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€ It’s good that these events draw a lot of people to Sibu but this is a small town so we will have to put up with the traffic congestion but never mind, not every day like in places such as KL.

  4. Nice photos. Sibu’s symbol is the swan, and our state’s symbol is the black swan!

Yes, I have a pair, the black swans from Perth. I think my parents bought them for me when they went over on a tour. They used to travel a lot when there were fit and able to do so – went to so many countries all over the world.

  5. So what type of mooncakes have you bought for this year?

Why? You wanna send me some, is it? Thank you, thank you! I’ll PM you my mailing address. ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€

  6. oooo … it’s visit sibu year, but i’ve not visited ๐Ÿ˜€ the decorations look very cool and colourful – good work to the team there, and good luck for the event! ๐Ÿ˜€

September’s over – you now have 3 months left. So when are you coming?

  7. Really? It’s Visit Sibu Year?! Why wasn’t I invited ๐Ÿ˜‰ . I even know a local guy who could give me the best eating tips in town! Wink, wink.

Come on over! That local guy will be honoured to be your personal tour guide. Wink! Wink! ๐Ÿ˜€

  8. so festive looking over there. Aha…. makan mooncake…jalan jalan….might spot a potential Son-in-law. …. full moon. romantic night

Haiz!!! No hope lah! All old folks bringing their pesky ill-disciplined brats to see the lights. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

  9. Must be very nice when lighted up at night, I like to go in the night when it is more cooling

But it will be very crowded and traffic will be jammed plus parking is virtually impossible – I’ve seen cars parked so very far away when they were events going on.
