…and the other day, we decided to drop by again, one reason being the fact that it is air-conditioned and the weather here these days has been unbearably hot.
Well, we quite liked the food the first time around so we wanted to see what else they would have to offer and we had this tau cheo (fermented beans) pork…
Actually, I asked for tau joo (fermented tofu) where they marinate the meat with it and deep fry but I guess the boss did not hear me correctly. Thankfully, it was very nice so we did not really mind.
Of course we did remind him that we did not want anything with soy sauce or wheat flour so we had the sweet potato leaves, ching chao (clear fried) with just garlic…
…and that was nicely done too.
We enjoyed the claypot own-made tofu…
…very much. The tofu was so very delightfully smooth and they were very generous with the yam too.
I was pleasantly surprised that the food for 3 persons came up to only RM31.00, inclusive of rice. It is very hard to come by that kind of price these days if you drop by such places where you get to order the dishes that you like. At most places, it will be RM40-50 at least, or more!
…but more than once. We stopped by on Sunday after the morning church service on our way to my parents’ house which is just round the corner. Now, what is it about those people and the good luck bamboo? I seem to see it everywhere I go. LOL!!! I don’t know if those umbrellas are for sale or they are those left behind by customers. If it is the latter, goodness gracious me! There sure are a lot of forgetful people around, it seems.
My missus had the chao chai hung ngang – the big bihun in preserved vegetable soup (RM5.00)…
…from the chu char stall at the back. It did not look like it was anything to get excited about but she said it was good and did enjoy it.
For my girl, I ordered the Sarawak laksa (RM6.00)…
…that I had the last time I was here with a special instruction to leave out the fish balls – they use those cheap supermarket ones, anyway and I’m pretty sure there is wheat flour in those. I did not think it was anything great, more quantity over quality and true enough, my girl did not enjoy it and the serving was so huge that she could barely finish half.
I wasn’t all that excited about the mee sua in traditional Foochow red wine chicken soup (RM6.00)…
…that I had either. It badly needed a lot more red wine and I think they used the imported ginger – the clean ones that one can get from the supermarkets and shops. My missus says those are not hiam (the strong gingery taste) and not so fragrant compared to those fresh ones sold at the market, covered with dirt and all.
We probably would not be going back again for a while and when we do, out of convenience more that anything else since it is a stone’s throw from my parents’ house, we would prefer to try some other things instead, especially from the chu char stall at the back.
