That morning, we dropped by here again…
…for breakfast. My missus had the fried noodles (RM5.90)…
…which she liked and with the freshly-sliced chili that they gave to go with it, she sure enjoyed it thoroughly.
I wanted the fried bihun and much to my surprise, the authentic Thai chef here, Jos, added paku (wild jungle fern) to it (RM5.90)…
…and he made it extra spicy and I loved it!
My missus said that her colleagues at the hospital, the ones of ethnic descent, used to cook it this way – with paku…
Normally, I would add cangkuk manis, if at all, when there is any available around the house, to my fried bihun with canned clams in soy sauce so this was a first for me. I sure would like to give it a try sometime and maybe I would add a bit of belacan (dried prawn paste) or udang kering (dried prawns) – just a bit and not too much to the extent of being overpowering. Perhaps that would be good too, we’ll see.
After we had left, I got word from my friend, Mary, asking me if I was still in town and could come back to her restaurant – she heard that I was there and she wanted to pass me some more of the free-range kampung eggs as she had just received a fresh supply from the farm but I was already home at the time. Yes, Sibu is so very small – one minute you’re in the town, next minute, you’re home! Hehehehehe!!!!
I told her I would be dropping by for lunch on Saturday when my girl would be home for the weekend and look!!! That nice lady did not give me a few, no, she did not give me a tray – she gave me TWO trays of the eggs…
Oh me oh my!!! This has got to stop, I told her. The next time, I must insist on paying for them, good enough that she gets the freshest ones from the farm. One will never know how fresh these eggs are when buying them from the egg stall at the wet market or worse, at the shops or supermarkets.
So what did we have for lunch that day? I insisted on having the out-of-this-world chicken rice (RM3.00 a bowl)…
…that is so good that one can just eat it on its own…but no, we did order some other dishes as well including this oyster omelette (RM19.50)…
…and their seafood woon sen salad (RM25.50)…
…with glass noodles and all the prawns and sotong (squid)…
…in it. I wanted this…
…too – their pad krapow gai, or whatever it is called, that I had at the dinner on their opening night and enjoyed a lot…but Mary heard that I was dropping by and was already planning to get that cooked for me and she did…and it was on the house!
Incidentally, I saw in their lunch set menu that they have this with a fried egg and rice for only RM10.00 but no, when you drop by for lunch, you are free to order anything on their main menu, no need to stick to those sets in the quite limited lunch menu but they do have a few options there that you may want to consider.
That sure was one awesome lunch that we had that day and no, we were so very full and did not manage to finish everything and as always, we had to tapao what was left home…and no, we did not have this fish…
…that looked so good! It just came out of the kitchen and I managed to snap the photograph right before it was served and yes, I’m very very fast! LOL!!! Actually, that was ordered by the lady at the next table who was there with three young girls, probably her daughters, and I was amazed that they ordered so much aside from the fish. I wouldn’t know if they were able to finish everything because we left before they did but if I were to have a big group with me here for dinner, I sure would want to order that fish!
Thanks so much, Mary, for that special dish and also for the eggs…and thanks to you too, Jos – we sure enjoyed the food and to Jun for the excellent and ever-so-friendly service.
