I had not heard from my dear friend in KL, Mandy, for quite a while and I was wondering how she was doing. She was not active on Facebook either – had not seen her there for a long time too. That was why I sent her a message to ask how she was doing but I did not get a reply until a couple of days later.
My handphone rang but it was somewhere in the house, not by my side, and by the time I got to it, the ringing had stopped. So, I called her back and yes, it was great to get to talk to her and to know that she was getting on all right, just that she had been so busy with her work and everything.
She said she had been here on her working trips twice, I think, but they stayed in Mukah, not in Sibu, and according to her, the road from the junction, a little past Selangau bazaar on the way to my girl’s school, to the town was much better than the Sibu-Selangau sector. I had thought of driving there and spending a few nights in the town enjoying the fresh seafood but when the time came, I changed my mind. Perhaps I should make a trip one of these days.
We talked for quite a while and when I ended the call, I got the prompt from the telco informing me of the balance that I still had and telling me that the call had cost me RM25.60. Good grief!!! For that kind of money, I could have bought two packs of the Sibu instant kampua mee and sent to her via our national courier, the so-called “fast post” and there would be enough to cover the cost of the noodles and the postal charges. Still, it was great to get to talk to Mandy after all this while so it was fine by me. That was what mattered most.
Later that day, I saw some friend LIKE-ing this ad from the telco…
…on their Facebook page. “Unlimited calls”, it said. I guess that meant one would be able to make free calls should one subscribe to the plan?
Of course, the ad got quite a few comments, none favourable, and I thought I would just add my two-cents’ worth…
…and much to my surprise, I got an almost instant reply from them!
I did what they requested immediately and sent them my phone number, handphone model and all and I even forwarded a photograph I took of the prompt on my handphone…
I did check the call log and saw that we had spoken for over 10 minutes but I had deleted that once I had seen it so I could not attach a snapshot of it.
That was Thursday and according to their Facebook page, they would check their PM on Monday to Friday from 9.00 a.m. onwards. I did not hear anything from them on Friday and then, it was the weekend so I guess I would have to wait till today, Monday or later if I were to get any further response from them.
Well, I never expected anything initially but now that they had responded in such a manner, I would want to hear their side of the story, at least. I do not think I will be hearing much else from them after this though – I looked at all the complaints in the other posts on their Facebook page and this looks like their standard reply – the same response to everybody like it’s computer-generated or something of that sort.
Checking my account status, I noted that I had been their customer since 2002. Gee!!! RM25.60 for a 10-minute call, Sibu-Kuala Lumpur, RM2.50 per minute. Perhaps it is high time that I switched telco. What do you all think?

Because I moderated and approved already so unless you switch another device or other links or details, you should get through without moderation, only the first time. It’s not a permanent setting – all comments would need to await moderation…like in the case of yours recently.
So so expensive. I agreed that it is time to switch new package or telco.

Yes, I remember you made that trip sometime ago – maybe the road has improved? Mandy said it is wider and not so bumpy. Even the Sibu-Selangau side, the roads are now a lot better than when my girl first got posted to her school – better than many in some parts of Sibu actually.
Too expensive, eh? Will go and ask the other telcos, see which one is better. Celcom has better coverage in the jungle. Everytime I go to my girl’s school, my internet connection, Digi, is like half-dead. Have to go outdoors and stand in some specific corners. 😦
You are using prepaid card? Why not postpaid? Cheaper and more worth it I guess.. I hear the most cheap one now is UMobile and Celcom.. Can consider their postpaid card, got free phone too..

Postpaid is better? Will consider that, now that I can pay online – no need to go to the office and pay…and those darn machines may reject the ringgit notes for whatever reason and they will only take round figures.
I used to call my girl very often when she was in New Zealand, not as expensive – I did not like Skype-ing, see my ugly face on the monitor screen. 😀 With charges like this, for a RM100 reload, I would have to reload after 4 calls. Terrible!!!
haaa.. at last some of the expertise I can talk about. haha well, not really expert. Just based from experience. Since you use Digi. I would recommended you use the postpaid. Its cheaper than postpaid. I was once calling people for like 10 to 15 minutes maybe charge me about RM12 13 something like that (noted that this is very very old plan) then in 2009 i change to postpaid. By that time, they have this other plan that i subscribe first which is the Family Plan. Meaning, I’m registering as the Mainline, and I have few of my closed friends registered as my subline and we can called/sms each other for free. I realized its cheaper than prepaid though because of my work nature, i always need to call people. So, there’s this one time i was on the phone for like 1 hour plus and it cost me less than RM10. heyy~~ quite good hah? I’ve been using that plan for the last 6 years until this year and I just change a new plan. Heard about it? the new postpaid plan. They have a range between RM68 (3gb) , RM78 (7gb), Rm80 (7gb anytime + 3 gb weekend)
For now I’m using RM78 with 7gb internet. UNLIMITED Calls (to all network day and night anywhere o3, o82, 084, well, you know. EXCEPT the special number such as 1300882525 etc etc. Like the kfc, pizza, or whatever special number) and unlimited sms to only 3 numbers. (your fnf top 3 numbers)
and hey that 7gb internet for 1 month. if you didn’t finish using it. It can take rollover maximum 2gb to the next month. Meaning the next cycle u will get 9gb. but it only take like in alternate month. I don’t know about u. it is a pretty good deal for me. and yes its easy to pay online and check ur account status and everything.

RM78 + 6%gst will be around RM82.68. CHeaper than what u always reload. Unless u always make a sms tho. 1 sms to other than those 3fnf will be 10 sen each.

and NO, i’m not working with DiGi. I’m just one of the happy customer. I’ve used others as well. Maxis, Celcom, Umobile. But i just tell about DiGi here since u already an existing customer.

RM48 50 minutes free call/50 free sms with 4 gb
Maxis a lot expensive i think. because
RM 98 for 1gb only but unlimited call & sms
RM 128 for 3gb unlimited call & sms as well
My friend last time change her maxis plan to rm68 (while there still a promotion) for unlimited call and sms and 5gb. Not sure if they still have this plan though.

I dunno what plan mine is but I pay RM48 a month, 3.5GB which is more than enough for me as I do not have a smartphone so I can’t do much when I go browsing online on my handphone. Most of the money goes to that every month as I do not call or send smses all that much either. When I was on Celcom wireless, when it was down, sometimes I would put the sim card in the modem to go online – enough bandwidth for my use in such cases of emergency. Now I’m on Unifi at home, free calls to landlines…but I never call anybody – only my missus, to chat with her sis in Kuching and her friends.
One of these days, I might just drop by their office to ask. Digi is not good in the jungle though, connection quite poor at my girl’s school. Maxis is totally out there, “Celcom territory”.
I am using maxis. I only know that if I make a call to Digi number & it happens to go into the voice box, I was charged 0.09 cents.

omg, this is what i was charged a decade ago.. or more. The rm2.50 per minute pricing is so old school, I am shocked and aghast that they do not update their rates for loyal customers like yourself. You should scold them! ><
You mean THAT was the rate at one time? Gee!!! I didn’t know that. I think I used to call a lot more…like when my girl was in Sg Petani, but there again, we were on Family & Friends already at the time so it was not expensive to call.
I’m using digi, and fortunately calls to any national number be it on the mobile or land line cost me nothing…paid 75 (amount to more than that after that) and got 7gb data..fine with me i guess
Ahhhhhh!!!! So you’re on the RM75 plan, unlimited calls. I suppose that means all calls are free then. But what would I do with so much bandwidth since I do not have a smartphone? Good that they do carry forward, unlike the plan I am on right now. But with my cheap handphone, I do not need that much. Gosh…I can imagine how much bandwidth I would end up with after a while. 😀

Although I now have a smartphone, I still hardly ever use it. I just use the GPS feature to record my bicycle rides and to call my wife to pick me up when I have a puncture (4 times already!).

Wowwww!!!! 😀 😀 😀 I seldom call as well, just this one time to call back my friend whom I had not heard from for a very long time.Once in a while, if there is anything, I may call my girl or send her an sms. Other than that, very very rarely…as and when the need arises but so far, I never made a call THIS expensive.

Me too! Don’t like talking on the phone, dunno how people can go on and on for hours! Usually, I would only call when I have something to discuss, would need more than one sms or two, not so convenient and so tedious to type lengthy messages.

Will spend 1 or 2K to get a smartphone, subscribe to a more expensive package…and not that I have a long line of people waiting to whatsapp me, not at all. I’m pretty ok with things the way they are now, not that I call or sms people all that much.

Thinking about it, even if it’s just for something different for a change.
I am using Digi RM50 plan.. comes with 100 minutes free call, 100 free sms and 3 GB data… more than enough for me.. I am paying RM40 plus now bec of the promotion for one year, they charge only Rm40 for the plan of RM50.. .later after one year, I might change.. see which gives better terms… hahahaa… I am a jumping telco patron!
Oh!!! That sounds good, 3GB is more than enough for me…and oh my!!! I would not be able to use up all the 100 free sms…and 100 minutes, free call – no, I don’t talk that long on the phone…and all those extras for just RM2.00 more than the RM48 package that I am having now. I wonder of the freebies are monthly or a one-off thing. Sometimes they give you free but you have to use up in a week or something like that. Will go and ask about it one of these days. Sounds like this is perfect for me!

I like the name Mandy cos it’s the title of my favourite Barry Manilow song (I’m sure you know it too)! Hmmm, I’ve been on maxis since 1999, and there are times I think of switching, but frankly, I’m ok with Maxis, despite its issues here and there, since no telco is perfect 🙂
