Room for one more…

This one has been around like forever and yes, it is very good and is enjoying brisk business though some may be of the opinion that what they serve here is not all that authentically Korean. Maybe they have adapted the recipes a bit or included some not-so-Korean selections to suit the local taste, I wouldn’t know but I do think it is worth stopping by once in a  while to enjoy what they have on their menu. Then came the Korean fried chicken franchise that my girl enjoys a lot so we would go there sometimes, once in a while. Then, another one opened and we went to give it a try but we did not enjoy what we had all that much, nowhere near the awesome dinner we had in Auckland, New Zealand, plus we thought it was a bit expensive…and yet another one soon followed suit. I never got to try this one but my missus went with her sister when the latter was in town and the fact that she did not seem to be in any hurry to bring my girl there speaks volumes as to how much she enjoyed what she had there, or otherwise.

There is another one that some people seemed to like but I have yet to go and check it out and I guess even in this little town, there is always room for one more and this one…

KIMCHEE KOREAN BAR.BQ

…opened its doors, the latest addition to the existing ones, located here (2.297168,111.8258460) on the 1st Floor, next to the Kin Orient Plaza or what many locals would refer to as the old Sing Kwong, right across the road from this one that I had mentioned earlier.

We dropped by after the sunset service on Saturday evening, past 8.00 p.m. two Saturdays ago, for a slightly late dinner to check this place out. There is not much decor…

Wall decor

…just a bit here and there…

Bar counter decor

…in the main dining area with cubicles so one would not see everybody else and what they are eating and in addition to that, there are a number of private rooms available, most of which would not be visible from outside…

Private room 1

…should you choose to keep the door closed and one big one (to the right of the Christmas tree)…

Private room 2

…has glass panels instead of the wooden ones.

These complimentary (and refillable) starters…

Starters

…were served the instant we sat down and I enjoyed all of them especially the pickled brinjal (bottom row, to the left) but no, even though the ladies loved it and said it was very well done, I tried a bit of this…

Kim chi

…and that was it, thank you very much.

We ordered the samgyeopsa (RM23.00) that the lady cooked on a grill with a charcoal fire underneath…

Grilling

…to perfection…

…before the meat was cut into bite-size chunks and served…

…to be enjoyed wrapped in lettuce together with the fermented bean sauce and toasted garlic…

The ladies thought that what the mum cooked at home had an edge over it but on my part, I did enjoy it very much and I would not mind having that again the next time around. I do think that at times, minimal marinating will suffice to enable the enjoyment of the sweetness and taste of in this case, the meat, without that being drowned out by a multitude of seasonings and dips.

They loved this a lot though – the sundubu jjigae (RM20.00)…

tofu soup

…that was served with a little bowl of rice but I wasn’t all the excited by it as it tasted way to close to the aforementioned that I would not touch with a ten-foot pole.

There was mutual consent regarding the dolsot bibimbap (RM18.00)…

Bibimbap 1

…though. Yes, we enjoyed that very much…

Bibimbap 2

…and we sure would not mind ordering it again the next time we drop by here.

We waited and we waited and we waited but there was no sign of the haemul pajeon (RM25.00)…

Seafood pancake 1

…so in the end, we had to ask about it. It seemed that the waitress who took our orders somehow did not jot it down but once it was brought to their attention, they got into action quickly and it was on our table in no time at all.

Yes, it was very good…

Seafood pancake 2

…a lot nicer than those that we had had before in town, another must-order on our next visit.

The place was run by three young (and pretty) and friendly girls, assisted by some Dayak waiters and waitresses. Other than the starters, iced water (we were served one whole jug of it) was free of charge and at the end of the meal, we also got these slices of watermelon…

Watermelon

…on the house.

When I went to settle the bill (RM86.00) at the counter, one of the sweet young things asked if I had any comments on the food. Of course, I told her that we enjoyed everything but I did wish they had stated their opening hours clearly on their Facebook page – they only posted that in Mandarin and it was not quite complete. Well, I saw the new post in English the very next morning and if anyone is interested, they are open from 11.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m. and from 5.00 p.m. to 10.30 p.m. on weekdays and 11.00 a.m. right through till 10.30 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.

Yes, the prices were a little on the high side but since we enjoyed what we had very much plus the service was good and the people, pleasant and nice, we certainly would want to come back here again…soon and perhaps, we would try some of the other things on their menu as well then.
