No, I did not go all the way there for brunch – it so happened that I was in the vicinity that day as there was something I had to do and my missus and I decided to just stop by and grab a bite to eat before going home, thus saving us the trouble of having to cook something for lunch.
We were there earlier this year…or was it towards the end of last year, and we had not been there since. This, of course, is the classier spin-off of our very own Sarawak fast food franchise…
…and we quite liked what we had on our previous visit here and also on various occasions, at their other outlets in town.
I remember their nyonya chicken kapitan curry was very nice but not the rice in the nasi lemak that I had so I did not want to order that again. However, I was feeling like having some curry so I ordered this..
…but when it was served (RM9.50)…
…I must say that it sure did not look like what was in the photograph. It was obviously not so lemak (rich with milk or santan) and it did seem that there was a lot less. For a while, I thought that it…
…looked like the canned ones that I blogged about just the other day but thankfully, it wasn’t anything of the sort – the potatoes were fresh, not over-soft like those in the can and the beef was not as tender, a little on the tough side but it was all right with me and I could manage pretty well. On the whole, I would say it was quite all right and I would have enjoyed it a lot more had it been even just a little bit spicy. I would say this guy’s curry here is heaps better…and yes, he used to be a chef at one of the outlets of this very franchise.
My missus had their chicken chop (RM9.90, promotional price)…
…and when it was served, we were quite delighted to see that it looked a lot better than in the photograph.
The chicken…
…was nice and they served it with a scoop of mashed potatoes…
…by the side, together with this acar timun & nenas (cucumber & pineapple pickle)…
…which was nice too but I thought that stood out like a sore thumb as usually we would find that in a plate of nasi lemak or nasi bryani…or one of those. Ah well, I guess these days, it doesn’t really matter – as long as the shoe fits, anything goes…and they can always put it down to what they call fusion…or what I always refer to as CONfusion. LOL!!!
On the whole, it was an o.k. meal – prices were inclusive of GST and with our two bottles of mineral water, the total…
…came up to RM23.20. I really must add that the workers were very nice – very pleasant, very polite and friendly and very efficient. I wish some of those at some places around here and elsewhere could be more like them.
Yes, yes, I do agree with their philosophy…
…but it would be very much nicer if we could strive to make it even better, right or not?
